Yes Selen is a defective mental case, but it's the job of the company to account for that, especially in an industry where mental illness is a fucking selling point. Sure trying to an hero was a massive overreaction, but most modern companies take into account the possibility of something like that happening, and even the worst companies usually at least pretend to do so. It isn't even "political correctness" or "wokeness" or whatever the fuck, it's just good management practice to allocate some resources into dissuading your workers from do something like that, ESPECIALLY in a largely public-facing industry where these sorts of incidents can have this sort of public backlash.

Even with the harshest assessment of Selen (or, like me and most others, simply not giving a shit about her), it's still an example of horrible mismanagement and somehow even worse PR from Niji.

Yeah, that's a really apt comparison. Rushia is pretty much what they tried to paint Selen as, but she still was let go pretty neutrally and both were able to continue their careers just fine, albeit separately.
