So what happened is there are too many short sales; in order to be able to short a stock there needs to be a share to lend out for sale. This is managed in Japan by Nippon Securities Finance Co. Basically they lend money to buy shares, which are then deposited as collateral (margin buying) then loan those shares out to sellers who will need to return them at some point (when the seller can buy it back for less than the original sale price, they hope) - short selling.
They maintain a balance of shares in a fund to lend out in case there are more short sales than margin buys, but if there are too many short sales then they impose restrictions, because otherwise NSF would need to buy additional shares to facilitate the short sale, which isn't in their interest. So that's what's happening now.
Source: https://finance.logmi.jp/articles/180419
This could actually mean Anycolor's stock price goes up significantly in the near future; with new short sales restricted there will be less downward pressure on the share price and current short sellers will need to buy back shares to return them (cover their short) which will push the price up; this can have a cascading effect because if the price goes above where short sellers sold, they can be forced to cover immediately to limit their losses, leading to a buying frenzy.

there are two things going on here, in addition to hitting the maximum 1-day drop in share price on Friday, once Anycolor's stock hit 10% down (must have been within milliseconds of the exchange opening) short-selling restrictions came into effect where you can only sell a stock short at a "rising" price (details here); this restriction stays in effect for the next trading day, in this case Monday
https://www.jpx.co.jp/english/equities/trading/regulations/02.html
This was lifted on Tuesday, and although the stock ended the day up slightly there were more short sales going on, to the point where the supply of shares to be lent out for short sale is insufficient and new short sales cannot be done
tl;dr there were restrictions imposed Friday that carried through into Monday and were released Tuesday, and a different restriction came into effect Tuesday. The new restriction will prevent short sales until there are enough new margin buys or enough existing short positions closed out to make shares available, so I wouldn't expect a big drop because only holders can sell now.

>> No.71836932

>>71836599
So if holders decide to sell, there is nothing to cushion the fall?

>> No.71837216

>>71836932
Aside from the limit price, yeah. However, because holders most likely bought the stock when it was in the 3k+ range, it is unlikely that we'll see them sell en masse. It's more likely that they hold and try to weather the drop until the price rises to a point at which they can bail without selling for a major loss.

Huæh? They lost both their highest female EN earner and highest subbed female EN chuuba, whose "negligible" termination led to a $200 million mkt cap fall in that week. They also took a massive reputation hit and then kept on delivering bad PR stunts. This is essentially unsalvageable. The only way out is to amputate the entire EN branch. It's so fucking over for NijiEN, I don't think the branch will exist next year.

>> No.71837814

>>71837584
Not true. The speculation machine already marched forward. They are expecting new speculators who will by to then join the mass selling as usual.
Nothing short of another investor dropping them and nuking the price would do it at this point. Still, there is hope because Tuesday really ended up being rather weak for a stock like this.
A major buy will follow a major sell for sure. But Riku may pull the rug once he has a chance to recoup his losses.

>> No.71838003

>>71836932
There are market circuit breakers that prohibit any sale that deviates too much from the open price like we saw Friday, but if a holder sells now they're eating a big loss, especially when the stock was up the past 2 days and the short restrictions will reduce selling pressure. Right now they want to at least wait for someshorts to be covered which will add buying pressure.
Obviously this is all short term stuff, but it's worth also keeping in mind that even though growth is well below expectations and EN is falling apart, the company overall is making more money than they were a year ago and still has a lot of cash on hand, so while a big drop in stock price reflects significantly worse future prospects unless big JP talents leave or their fans do the stock is going to find an equilibrium somewhere rather than fall towards 0

>> No.71838052

>>71837767
Fact is, it's the EN Q4 they need to salvage. JP gains are marginal but still gains. The problem is covering the 30% remaining to get to the goal.
Most investors then expect them to open for dividends, which would mean them paying the shareholders money, thing they never did in all years they are active. Of course, poppycock especially at the current price, but idiots will buy everything.

The EN branch has no hope to survive after the summer unless they somehow do a full 180° and rebuild all bridges with the people they fucked over. And Doki may not be receptive at all as her defense of the livers comes with the caviat of being left alone.

They are done for, but refuse to die. They will likely release all 3D possible trying to create hype but that will not bring back fans and definitely don't have the venue or the studio to redo the AR.

This is because Japanese economy is too insecure and too pro-corporation. They are afraid of bubbles popping too fast and cause a chain reaction.
As for investors, they are even more tone deaf than Riku when it comes to EN fans. They expect oversaturation to magically work again, unaware that the hobby is too niche and flesh streamer, other companies and indies are way too popular.

This restriction happens on any stock with significant moves and it's not a choice made by people or a team or whatever it's just a market function of the TSE or whatever. Essentially, to shortsell or do options or whatever, anything other than buying or selling what you own, requires a second party to loan the stock to you, or agree to the options contract, or whatever trade you're doing. You can't physically sell something you don't have, so they loan it to you and get interest. When you sell it, you plan to buy it back at a lower price, then return it to the party you loaned it from. The one doing this loaning/contracts is usually some institution, almost always backed by other investors, ie, for this institution to avoid needing to hold a bunch of bunk stock, they just ask other investors if they want to loan the stock to them for a small interest, many stockholders who have over 5% and are seemingly just holding it? They're actually loaning it so others can shortsell or do options, or they're using it as asset collateral for traditional loans. They're not just sitting on it waiting to sell (though most contracts are quite agile and will allow you to sell portions in case of upward movement to payback, or readjust the allotted collateral, etc).
When this restriction comes up (there are like 5 different types of restrictions, maybe more), it's because there's physically not enough stock to loan out for shortselling, ie not enough holders are loaning their stock out. This is usually because shortbros all gang up on a stock that's crashing to make easy money, but it's like first come first serve, there's a limited amount in circulation. Of course you could also make a private contract with a large holder to have him specifically loan to you, without the TSE or whatever as the middleman, but these kinds of investors usually start talks in the millions (USD), so the average joe stock investor has no chance. Usually this restriction will lift within a few days as things balance out, maybe interest rates get adjusted to incentivize the holders to loan to TSE, or the shorters find another stock to gang up on or something.
Not like you shmucks will understand this post tho so I just wasted my time typing this....
