Is there even any point to being a vtuber anymore? The hype is dead, and most fans are more interested in the real person behind the character than the character itself. The first search suggestion for any vtuber is almost always "___ ___ face reveal". It seems like being a vtuber is just handicapping yourself.

None of the small corpos know what the fuck they're doing. They just saw vtubing getting big and wanted easy money without having the competence to stay in the industry. Their talents are just tools, and right now they're only barely coming out of the stage where they're too clueless to know they're being fucked over. The quirk of being an anime character. Anyone that gets into vtubing, much like regular streaming, is fooling themselves if they think they're gonna do well enough to make it a job unless they're part of the big agencies. It's about 70% luck at best, with the rest being true, dedicated work and commitment.

We're seeing a lot of indie vtubers and small corpos drop off because the Western bubble from 2020 to 2022 is finally starting to deflate as the understanding that being the next "Gawr Gura" or "Luxiem" is like catching lightning in a bottle.

I think we are seeing a rise in hybrids because honestly people find the whole "corpo owns the IP" total bs, which frankly no matter who, it is.
You can't ever re-use the IP again because you get destroyed from the taboo and the people will follow the person, especially if the new face is better.
That's definitely something that has to die IMHO, it's not like we don't know when person X moves from company A to company B or becomes indie, it's literally the biggest debuff into this becoming more than a niche in the west. People are not parasocial and are always interested in the person.

Most people still use anime characters as they are more approchable than the person itself at times, that's why I don't think we are gonna see any reduction in indies, but definitely a death of any Corpo who doesn't put a minumum of effort.
