no i don't think getting an artist to touch up ai work accomplishes what using ai art is supposed to, which is to avoid paying another person. i don't think there's a way to do this where it doesn't end up the equivalent of just hiring an artist normally or just using ai art which has been slightly edited but is otherwise identical.
the way i see it happening is if they decide to use ai art, there will be a push to normalize ai art in the mainstream until people do not care that something is ai generated
that might not be successful if they give up on it too soon, but otherwise it could work

But I am also a creative, and playing around with AI generation in art and text has allowed me to come out with ideas. Its why I dont want to knock it off completely.

Its why I think people really need to look at this situation more critically. It WILL affect jobs. But it can also be a huge aid to artists and writers.

To add on, I am old enough to remember when printed media was the way to go, artists have already had to adapt to going digital, to pirating of their works due to online, the absolute need of social media marketing, and the need to do 18+ arts to stay afloat. This is just one more thing they have to adapt to. What happened to all the artist that bitched and moaned about digital, social media, and 18+? I dont think ai art is "supposed" to avoid paying a person. I read the research papers related to ai, and its really more about getting ai to understand art and concepts. Its all maths, its why safetensors are all maths and dont have images. Its also why ai generation can be messy when you try to generate sex - the ai does not know that girl x is in love with boy y, it only knows that a picture has x and y.

Its why to me the tech is more interesting when its used to supplement art. But freeloaders see it as a means to make impressive pics without effort, while luddites are ready tl throw the baby out with the bathwater.

And then people who make AI art will still need to know art concepts related to what makes art good, they just won't need to actually know how to draw.

>I don't give a fuck about creativity.

Well you should. Because the whole point of having different artstyles IS creativity. The whole point of not being able to copyright an artstyle is because of creativity. Artstyles are supposed to be this unusually idiosyncratic things thats restricted to only a few artists, and by right you're not supposed to be able to copyright an artstyle because its like saying "you can't draw this way". But corpos won't really care if they can see a chance to prevent that from happening by arguing "anybody can do this artstyle, so lets prevent people from doing so"

>I want to generate the pics I want to see in the styles I like for free and that's it. I'm not "picking up a pencil." I'm not wasting my already limited time—time I already have to budget between work, rest, other miscellaneous responsibilities, and my preexisting hobbies—learning how to draw. If artists don't like that, they can eat shit. All the shitty memes and Twitter circlejerking around "AI... BAD!" is not going to change my mind.

I know you're arguing from the point of a freeloader who just wants to prompt and get quick results for free, but I can also tell you didn't get my fucking point. So I'll make it more obviously clear for you. I'm NOT against AI. I think there's a potential to AI generation that artists can benefit from. But I also know corpos love money and, aside from not paying artists, I am QUITE sure they'll start suing ai generation artists if given the chance. And thats my fucking point - Corpos can and WILL take your freedom to generate art on the fly if given the chance.
Its why you MUST give a fuck about creativity. And better yet, you should be fucking DOING something about it. As it is, I am making safetensors of some of my favourite characters and artstyles. Because chances are the day will come when the generator and lora sites will go down, and ai generation will end up being a homebrew thing. it doesn't take a good artist a lot of time to do details, there are tricks to that stuff with the tools that already exist.
you know, i'll forgive your examples on account of you not being an artist, so I can imagine that there are some scenarios where ai will help. the problem is that using ai that way is completely irrelevant to the topic, because the topic isn't about using ai in a way where you still have to pay your artist (no profits, why even bother thinking about it lmao), it's about using ai to cut the artist out of the payroll

Up to the consumer and has absolutely nothing to do with AI. If lower standards are the concern then why isn't it happening with existing art? Companies can hire cheaper artist that make more mistakes, so why don't they?
>basically the same thing - people will still like non-generated art for the variety if nothing else, but there will be less of it if there are less artists because mainstream stuff is ai
I don't see the problem. More variety, smaller developers can have actual art with their projects instead of labouring away in obscurity because art is beyond their budget or their projects are too long term to retain reliable artists. It's kind of bad form to only argue from the perspective of the biggest of the big corpos somehow using AI art when there is a huge amount of legit benefit for smaller creatives who are getting their projects ignored because they lack visual art in a world where consumers will look at a book's cover and decide to read based on that.

The basic-bitch AI slop is going to be used by smaller projects and developers. Big companies will still have to hire 'real' artists to stand out form that crowd, and they will probably only appreciate in value as a result.

This is one of my personal favourite pieces that I've generated on pixai. Granted, its just the cover of Deus Ex, but using a lora trained on Gordon Freeman and the "depth" values of the Deus Ex cover. But its like looking at what a "Half-Life: Deus Ex" game might look like. Yes, it is why creativity is involved, even if its just ai generation - even how you order the words in the prompting can actually affect the generation. And thats not counting the various other vlaues you can use. There's a lot going on, and thats just going by PixAI, which is the "newbie-friendly" option.

>Companies can hire cheaper artist that make more mistakes, so why don't they?
i think that there are actually a lot of different reasons behind this that make it a bit complicated to summarize, so I'll just give the first few I thought of.
First of all, this does happen in other industries - for example comic books, meeting deadlines was way more important than 'good' art, there's videos about inkers and people who did this.
second, the artist themselves is a barrier. the artist's reputation is connected to their work, so they will do the best they can to get future jobs, so it's difficult to tell them to do worse.
third, finding artists who are just the right level of good enough to not lose profits and bad enough to lower standards over time is very difficult. Also, those artists will get better over time, so finding them isn't even a good investment.
Some of this is solved by using AI - it's already at that level where it's good enough but also bad enough, it is consistent, and we've already found it.
>I don't see the problem.
>The basic-bitch AI slop is going to be used by smaller projects and developers. Big companies will still have to hire 'real' artists to stand out form that crowd, and they will probably only appreciate in value as a result.
if what you described is how it turns out then maybe there won't be a problem, however that isn't really the case, as we've seen by modern patterns. I think it is much more likely that the big companies will be using AI because there is pressure to save costs on them, so only the medium sized developers will have real art. And if big companies aren't hiring real artists, then there won't be a large pool of talent to draw from.

Its not quite the same as NFTs as NFTs were an actual fucking scam and grift based on a blockchain, and investing on some meme currency that will never "go to the moon". We're talking about using mathematics to generate pictures, which is what AI generation REALLY boils down to - using AI to analyze art in terms of mathematics, and from their, using the mathematics to generate "similar" results to it. Because thats what art generation really is at the end of the day - its all math. All the loras, safetensors, even NAI's model, its all mathematics, really elaborate code trying to understand art. Speaking as somebody interested in art, one that that AI generation has opened me up to is how there is a certain mathematics to making pleasing art. I think thats a takeaway that could be beneficial to the traditional artists who do things by hand.

you're right, but you're missing the real issue, which is that ai art was not made to help artists, it was made to reduce costs by replacing them. I know you're the guy whose been repeating this point throughout this thread, but I don't quite buy it. Or, and well if I do buy it - it makes me even more compelled to start training Loras on the art these techbros are clearly ignoring. And yes, I am making loras based off specific tumblr-based artstyles, as well as old characters.

>but why

Because I enjoy doing so. I can and will pay artists to draw some of these characters, but I also know many artists don't play the games or watch the shows I do. And honestly, I don't mind paying an artist to draw a picture if the AI can't generate it.
