So vtube studio has a specific format its models are in which is different to the format used by the software that Holo uses. This means vtube studio's ability to insert the models into the scene cannot work with Holo models directly. So to make it work you have to use some work arounds. She could just put them on the tv with the greenscreen like she would with fleshies but she wants to try to make the Nerissa model look more in the scene (assumedly to not make the holo sotds look noticeably worse than other sotds) but doing that is much more difficult than just chromakeying it.

No. Vtube Studio has had a collab feature for a while now so that's not required if they're using it and it seems like the set was made with that in mind.
The set already being a resource hog requiring three instances of the app running, using Ping which she used to use may be an issue since it's really scuffed at times.

It's as resource heavy as you want it to be generally. If you only run a 2d model it's basically equivalent. When you are trying to setup a whole scene it's much more like running a game at that point. Personally I would love to see more vtubers mess around with things like unity and unreal engine. Vtube studio is basically already becoming a watered down version of a game engine. I think the hardest problem is translating the anime aesthetic to 3d. I have yet to see anyone really pull it off properly imo. Even Holo's attempts while admittedly pretty decent still tend to look undefined and washed out in many places.
