for instance with gura, she's an ancient being from Atlantis, right? so using subtle things like her one outfit may suggest she was Atlantian royalty, also the lost city it self has a bunch of lore in our world that you can use from.

I think too much lore is a bad thing for fan work purposes. Too much becomes too restricting. Not that we have even been super concerned with such matters, since authors here have always picked and chosen what works and discarded what doesn't fit. Nobody is going to have an autism attack if you make Fauna THE Goddess of Nature when shes *'technically* not for example.

Good chuuba lore should be a point in a direction rather than diction. Just look at the lore differences between Council and Promise. Much more flexible.

What are ways that writers took established lore and represented it, or even expanded on it that you enjoyed?

Honestly thinking about it. /wg/ doesn't really make fics that work/use established lore, most fics are in the "20 minutes in the future, Tokyo Idols" setting so by nature it mashes together streaming lore and character lore with streaming lore winning out when they come into conflict. Meanwhile the other half is set in original/offbrand settings so the 'lore' is from adapting character concepts to the setting ala with holofantasy.

i mean in a way, /wg/ is an anomaly even in fanfic circles.
I dont wanna toot my own horn but i was genuinely surprised when i explained kind of fics here and some of you were flabbergasted at it. In a way, we are like those weird japanese christians that existed in the pre-spanish/portuguese expansion where they got the idea and some broken language stuff and molded the religion entirely around what they had and their circumstances.

So here we value "Auteur" content (HJ simple but excited prose, AA straight punches, the snappy dialogue the brrat writes, WeirdAnon weird prose and even Balsaanon nonstop barrage of content) and throw lore out of the window while also being strongly against headcanons, porn without plot and other Ao3 staples.

This also means that we all hold in high steem simple braindumps like Holologs and similar because that's fresh content for us. Chatrooms is one thing but we never got

Disclaimer: I don't watch Gura, but I have listened to Reflect a bunch of times.
I thought the lore stuff in Reflect was more of a veneer over the actual purpose of the lyrics, which is to talk about how she feels about her PL, especially her struggle with alcoholism, impostor syndrome, and her general fears and doubts.

On that note, I really like songs/MVs like that.
Towa-sama has Palette, which was her first original song. She wrote the lyrics herself, and they reflect her situation back then - struggling with the relative unpopularity of her PL's music, and then struggling with the relative unpopularity of her Hololive self (not least due to the yabe incident), it's her commitment to making music her career. There's a reason she cried while singing it in her 1st anniversary concert.

Not an original song, but Suisei's cover of Boku wa Hatsune Miko to Kiss wo Shita makes the MV a retelling of her indie days.

She did write the lyrics for GHOST, which relate to her ultimate goal to get vtubers to be seen as real artists, not just niche entertainment "for otaku".
Then there's Kanata's/4th gen's Kiseki Musubi. Kanata wrote the melody and lyrics for it so that it includes every 4th gen member's names, and she worked really hard coordinating everything to get the music video out before Coco's graduation, as a commemoration.

AZKi has quite a few songs like that too, and though she rarely writes the actual lyrics herself, she does have a lot of influence on what their themes are. For example, Saikyo x Saijaku Girl is (was) about her roommate's OL job. For her older songs, she has liner notes with her thoughts on them.

A part of me kinda wants to see those common tropes you find in other fanfic circles because a lot of them are just simply fun (enemies to lovers my beloved). But at the same time, I can never bring myself to actually write one because I always want to write something more than those tropes or at least incorporate them into something bigger, but then they take a smaller role. It's an odd impasse I'm at personally.

On websites that have accounts and openly display popularity metrics (i.e. promote cloutchasing) you're encouraged to use already proven formulas for attention, and so writing to become/remain popular becomes the focus of many.

Every fucking Fandom have people chasing clout by copying or following trends. While most of the clout chasing in chuuba fan works come from fan art, bigger fan fic communities are big enough that people copy plots and concepts. Sometimes out of genuine inspiration, sometimes out of desire to get more readers.

Depending on the author is someone like Mio exploding and calling out everyone (like flanders does in that scene), Mumei snapping and is framed as her killing people but she's actually roasting them and/or a character goes full on wacky rapist and fucks all their friends while the others try to stop her. something like Matsuri starts molesting, they draw a gun on her and she eats the bullet and spits it out.

Closest thing we've had to public meltdowns (at least when it came to (You) responses) are pekofag's self exile and maybe balsaanon lamenting that his adventure fics aren't interesting to other people. Other meltdowns from namefags weren't exactly from the performance of their fics.

I'm not sure a pure chat room fic would really work with how this fandom works. You kind of need at least a soft setting you can place the chat room in. It works in the Miko fic because the peanut gallery has something to react to. Meanwhile a pure chat fic has nothing to chain itself onto except present day/recent past, and a fic that's just "this is what I imagine the (insert corpo) discord free chat is like" isn't exactly a strong concept.
