I'm glad you're looking forward to it. I can't promise netcode on the initial release, but I tried out parsec with a friend of mine recently on a game I can't talk about, and it works well so long as both machines can run the game. I hope that would serve as a placeholder until I can get netcode functioning. I'm engineering the game with peer to peer rollback in mind, so hopefully that shouldn't be too difficult once I can wrap my head around a framework.

I thought you had rollback figured out already, that part will be really hard to implement later on. This is an unfinished fightan engine, it can manage 2d and 3d so if you want to keep your prerendered sprites you can, or you can make it all true 3d. It says it can manage platform fighters, but I've yet to see it. The dev is super chill so you can ask how you would go around doing a platform fighter. Most importantly it has rollback from the get go, training mode features, some QOL and shit. If doing rollback proves to be too hard you can try this

As complicated as it sounds, it’s actually pretty easy to achieve. You just need the proper callbacks (i.e. get input, load state, save state, advance frame) and deterministic execution (aside from CPUs, I have that). I have all that, at least mostly. From there it’s just slotting them in properly. I’m definitely not switching engines at this point.

Fun fact: in melee, crouch canceling is extremely powerful due to a combination of ASDI down and the fact that when landing while not in tumble, fighters would cancel all hitstun and enter normal landing (effectively 4 frames optimally). That’s why you can hit someone and they’ll just poke you with a down tilt or a smash attack.
