Like with any ship, it all boils down to having a fun and interesting dynamic. All shipping content requires two characters interacting with each other. Those interactions better be good, then. Which means that they have to have a good basis build up on.
The two main things to be used as basis are character's personality and lore. Whether it's them being opposites or having similarities doesn't really matter, since both can provide for a good dynamic.
Example:

One is an angel, the other is a devil. One is a bratty girl with a messy room and a lack of fashion sense. The other is a serious, responsible girl and is very feminine. Both are kind and caring towards their friends and each other.

I find it borderline impossible to "force" a ship. Because, as I said already, a ship requires a dynamic. If there's nothing, then no one will get inspired, either.

Aside from the lore of Lize being the third princess and Ange being the court alchemist, it's not uncommon to see arts and comics showing a young alchemist taking care of a little princess. Bonus points for playing with "Now vs Then". Where "Then" shows Ange acting (or at least trying to) like a responsible adult trying to deal with a child full of energy. And "Now" shows Lize, who grew up to be an actual responsible adult, looking after of Ange, who's struggling to take care of herself.

I have to say, though, lore is just a nice addition. And personalities are the main core of shipping.
