It's like with Zelda, the stories are self-contained, so unless you are giga autist you don't need to care about play order. Felghana and Origin are the best (Felghana is more raw and hardcore, Origin feels like modern progression), Ark is okay, these three come with the same game engine. Get a beginner book like genki and grind through it. This will let you know basic grammar which is very important to know how to properly deconstruct a sentence to understand it
Take whatever chance you can get to listen to Japanese whether through anime or clips and actively try to pick up words and follow along with what they're saying. Use subs as a reference but don't get tempted to turn your brain off and only read. Any words you don't know, save it as a flash card. Clips are good since this will target the words you'll hear the most in streams if that's what you're aiming for. JP clips also almost always have JP subs which are really useful too
Keep grinding away. This is a multi year long venture, and before you know it you'll become Japanese
