The way in which I reached and thought of this explanation is kind of lost in my memory, but it's mostly due to media I've been exposed to, both recently and as a child, both fictitious and real. It's really a matter of experience and trial and error, seeing what fits together and trying to make everything as consistent and whatnot as possible without taking too crazy of assumptions
For example, the idea of dying in a world and being birthed in the next is kind of inspired by the isekai trope and the different ways the universe is believed to meet its end. The timelines part is also inspired and built on the principle/idea of the many worlds theory/theoretical immorality
Hopefully this is a satisfactory explanation, probably not, it's just my respective explanation anyways and it works great for me at the very least
