I think people really underestimate that vtubing is THE parasocial hobby. Parasocialism is a foundational pillar of the industry. Streaming itself is very parasocial, but vtubing is a step above that. Unless you are God tier at what you are doing, you need some parasocial aspects to keep your audience coming back otherwise what's the point?

Being seiso is great if that's the type of person you are but without feeling parasocial towards your audience and if you're not doing something at a very high level, I have no reason to return and watch you. I think a great example is Shondo, despite her fans and her repuation, her streams are very seiso and she has strict rules in place about sexual comments. But she is the pinnacle of parasocial.
