Serious question, why does this thread care so much about the live viewer numbers? For Twitch I would understand, since that's a very streaming focused platform, but for YouTube does it make any difference between live viewers and VOD viewers? Both of those would provide ad revenue just the same.

Wouldn't the superchat + total view numbers be a better objective measure of the vtuber's financial success? Wouldn't subscription growth rates show whether or not the vtuber is gaining or losing new audiences?

Anya has every debuff imaginable except speaking heavily accented English. Easy to understand since its a single number with no other modifiers in a way, and relatavely dynamic since it can actually go up and down both on a day by day basis, and even throughout a stream.

VODs are boring in a way since they always just grow, and while you can compare the average growth over several different VODs, it takes time to mature and requires extra fiddling with numbers, which realistically makes it a easy stat to manipulate, and kind of old news by the time they can actually be used for comparisons a lot of the time. The two aspects combined together make it a far less interesting thing to discuss on a day to day basis. Live viewers over the stream and the peak are both raw numbers, and they fresh and new each day, so it allows for far more dynamic observation of results.

Afaik, a lot of modern vtuber culture is also heavily focused on the livestream aspect as well, and so the interest in that aspect is also present in the numbers thread about it.

tl;dr Live viewers is just more interesting to discuss for a lot of people compared to VODs.
