It's not "just because of a company", there is a huge underlying reason Hololive has the huge live audience it has today.
Hololive biggest strength is the shared audience and the interpersonal relationship between the girls.
That allows them to grow their audience organically, with each person entering the "rabbit hole" not only appreciating what brought them in but pretty much every other aspect of the agency.

As much as audience loss is important, the fallout with the EN vtuber community is bigger.
All these drama chasers and news outlets can say whatever they want, as long as more viewers and vtubers will want to join but, those people were the most vocal.
Gimmi un-graduating and a few vtubers saying publicly that they convinced others to not join NijiEN, because they don't offer anything. That kills all growth potential in the scene.
