Fruits are really expensive in Japan, anon.
Not only land for agriculture is restricted due to Japan's geography, but the regulations for selling fruits coupled with a weird obsession of not selling less than perfect fruits makes their price increasea lot.
Also, Japan has this weird system in which fruits are grown in "specialty areas". Apples, for example, are the Aomori prefecture specialty and there apples are priced normaly but, get outside of it and a single Aomori apple costs 6 dollars.
And this is not taking in consideration Japans obsession with premium fruits, who are often so expensive that they are given as luxury gifts.
It's why you see people gifting watermelons when visiting others in anime - they can get very expensive.
You can still find somewhat inexpensive fruit though, but that requries going to Farmer's markets and stuff that no one with the routine of a full time hololive Vtuber will do.

Nah. The big VTubers probably don't think of this stuff like (for example) athletes do, where they have a really small ten-ish year window to make all their money then have to retire. Many of them have been in the content creation business for over ten years and are probably going to retire entertaining people on the internet, one way or another.

I remember reading the Japanese investment market is a bit slow, government debt pays shit, the stock market grows even more slowly. Because of this, private Japanese financial services (offered by brokers and banks) seek to invest abroad
I mean, these aren't real barriers, unless I am missing something, because they can still buy investment products (as OP said, index funds or USA debt) through a Japanese legit institution, it's just the products they buy might belong to a foreign economy

Well anon, you might want to look into a DIY mattress, since band name mattresses tend to be overly marked up anyways.
Do you have sleep issues? If not, then you got a good matching mattress that should hopefully last you many years at that price point. I've slept on an ok $1k mattress for 4 years, and it started to lose its support in 2 years. I literally started waking up in the middle of the night consistently despite feeling comfy enough when I fall asleep. Bought a nicer new $2.5k mattress. and I haven't had sleep issues since, and it's been going strong for about 5 years.
