While parasocial relationships really just boil down to one sided relationships where one person puts in all the effort, It’s not really what people mean when they describe parasocialism in the realm of streaming. Parasocialism in the world of streaming is basically always used in a romantic context, stuff like GFE. you’ll often see GFE chuubas defend themselves by referring to the first definition of parasocialism and completely ignoring the second definition that is generally used in the streaming context, just because streaming is inherently parasocial doesn’t make milking your lonely, mentally ill audience for all they’re worth any less shitty.

Why would this be a bad thing? If more people do it that means there's more supply on the market. It's like criticising McDonald's for not actually having a love of food and feeding people, instead they just want to make money and they found feeding people was the best way to do it. My oshi is a small indie and has to put up with my menhera bullshit pretty regularly but it's clear she understands and empathises with me.
