A lot of JPs have live translators. There are like 50 easy phrases you can learn which most vtubers say during every stream and with context of the game, you can quickly figure out what's going on and how they're feeling. Even fucking Google translate can help. Type things like 'I'm lost' 'I'm scared' 'Where am I?' 'I'm hungry' 'What is this?' 'I understand' 'I'm confused' and play the translated audio. Rephrase them and learn the sounds. It's not that accurate but you'll recognize them saying something similar during streams and figure it out.

There hasn't been drama in EN for a long time. Meanwhile in just the last few months JP has had Mel's termination, Matsuri reenacting porn with male streamers in GTA and having to apologize for it, and smears about Suisei and Rushia

I've been passively learning japanese for the last 3 years or so by watching JP. It's gotten to the point that I don't need to watch the screen to understand what is going on any more.

As for the problems in EN: I only watch streams/VoDs of games I'm interested in. I don't have an oshi and will watch literally anyone if the game is interesting. So things like drama, lack of streams, numbers etc. don't affect me.
