This whole fiasco got me thinking, vtuber agencies are kinda pointless if you think about it. Think of all the fleshtubers on youtube. A lot of them are independent content creators with no one financially backing them. There are anime reaction channels that built up 100,000+ followers just by grinding out videos over time. The only things agencies bring to the table is getting accepted to one gives you an instant following and it gives you solid roster of vtubers to frequently collaborate with. The second point, you could probably even do that as an independent vtuber if you try hard enough. The whole thing just seems like agencies are only important because they convinced vtubers that agencies are important. I'm just saying fleshtubers have succeeded on youtube fine without anyone managing them, it really shouldn't be any different for vtubers.

There's a small army behind every corpo talent, and even indi talents (such as Aethel) hire managers, lawyers, etc. Nevermind the fact that you pretty much get 100K subs outright, with a company with influence like Nijisanji's.
