At least he's a really fun character in this one and in the last case you play the trial in question prior to his name being cleared. But yeah I had similar thoughts when I learned about it. Game sequels that choose to screw the protagonists over off screen or make the previous ending a bad thing is a big peeve of mine.
Still really liked the game though. For me it was AA5 that killed my interest in the series.

The writing, mostly. The investigation segments lost a lot of flavor text because you can't select objects that aren't plot relevant. Then in the trials things would get on the nose at times. I can remember a few instances where things got dicey and then the judge of all characters would say "You're so well known for worming out of things Mr. Wright, I can't wait to see how you handle this one"

For that last point, I'm reminded of the Virtue Last Rewards 3D change. The 2D sprites in 999 gave a lot of personality to the characters, and I liked the artstyle of the puzzles and the ship a lot. I've been looking for an interface that can, offline, view not only a vod but also chat AND comments. I believe tartube allows for that whereas just straight yt-dlp spits out a json file which is useless.

Must admit I'm not familiar with any of these GUI's for yt-dlp / youtube-dl, from looking at tartube though it's just using yt-dlp to download the comments and livechat without doing anything afterwards. And selecting player is just opening my default player not anything custom to display chat with it.

The online player here https://archive.ragtag.moe/player lets you run a local file + json chat together, but otherwise I'm not too sure what else is available.

On the comments, I couldn't see that tartube downloaded the metadata + comments at all - but I don't think there's anything to view this nicely. Probably just copy and paste it into a online json-prettify and see if that works for you. It doesn't look like I write the comments out at all though so I can't really give you any pointers there.

With all that said, if you just want to use it as a interface for downloading + keeping a record of what you have downloaded from a channel it looks fine and quite nice.
But if you're hoping the output does anything different from archiving via terminal / cmd or has it's own player / view to display everything you're out of luck .

I only found out about tartube when I was looking up how to archive comments. Whether or not they're worth saving I dunno, but nobody seems to be archiving them at al and I wouldn't mind going back on old streams to see what was said.
How are you organizing the downloaded vods?

live chat is considered as subtitles in yt-dlp, for a stream there usually isn't going to be anything else done so you should be able to grab the live chat with just adding --sub-lang all and --write-subs to actually output the subs to a ,json file along with whatever you usually use:
yt-dlp --sub-langs all --write-subs <other options > <link-here>

Without being an expert, the first one looks to at least have the subs option wrong, it should be "--sub-langs all" if you want them all. The only other real differences i'm seeing are:
-4 -- Makes you connect via IPv4
--embed-thumbnail - Embed thumbnail in the video as cover art
--progress - Show progress bar
--sleep-subtitles - wait time before getting next subtitle file
--concurrent-fragments allows multiple download threads at once
-o Sets the output file name in that format.

And from the first you have sound and video quality mentioned - but I think by default is should always be trying to get the best quality available.
Without changing anything I'd probably suggest the second one (But there isn't much difference apart from the subtitles and threading count)

Interesting. Foob got the general gist of what was going on but missed a lot of the anxiety-building elements because she couldn't follow the all the dialogue.
Fucking game should have a subtitle option in ENGLISH because the sound isn't that good. While watching her I couldn't make out some parts because the spoken volume is too low and heavily directional. If the streamer isn't facing whatever it is that's speaking a viewer will have a hard time picking up what's being said. I think Gura had some issues listening as well.

In some respects I'd actually put her even above A-chan. Which is not to put down A-chan's skills, they're great, but the thing is it's super obvious that she's academically taught, primarily. There's the moment of hesitations, the slower pace, the more formal tone, falling back on Japanese when she doesn't know how to reply.
The thing with Ririka's English is it was learned by immersion. So she's super comfortable both listening and talking at native speaker speed, she's comfortable with informal speech and slang, and her first instinct is to ask clarifying questions in English instead of falling back on Japanese. This especially has beneficial effects on collab chemistry with EN. She can go 2 and a half hours with someone like Biboo that barely speaks Japanese, and Biboo didn't have to change the way she talked to accommodate at all.

It's not like she's wrong, but she's not correct either - some people have mentioned Rushia AFTER the first few weeks / months since termination (namely FBK / Kanata / Pekora / Marine) but you don't see anyone mentioning her in those recent relationship charts either (and I mean the type Mel did in her last stream, not the custom type Marine did) - on the plus side, those charts don't mention graduated members either (outside of Korone who decided to mention Coco for whatever reason). I guess part of such attitude probably comes from management's recommendations, part of it comes from common sense (no need to turn graduated / terminated members into Simpsons' Poochie and ask "where's Mel?" or "how's Mel?"), part of it comes from the fact that people tend to move on and not remind themselves of sad stuff even when an opportunity appears.

To this all I can say is "we just don't know" - you can think they do, you can think they don't. In terms of graduated members, Coco clearly interacted (and still interacts) with a bunch of holomems - see Kanata referring to her as Friend C when they were still living together, see Choco / Roboco interacting with her on other accounts, and I'm pretty sure Ina still talks with Sana off-screen because they were friends long before Hololive. In terms of terminated members, both available examples (Aloe / Rushia) don't have any visible indication of interacting with holomems / genmates off-screen (ex-holomems like Coco don't count) so it's hard to say if the same applies to Mel or those two examples were just a bad coincidence.

So I'm been thinking about the lineup of talents. Mel, Choco, Aki, Roboco, Matsuri, and Ririka. Maybe this is just me trying too hard to find a coherent connection, but isn't that list some of the most gyaru-ish members of Hololive? Not all of them necessarily have perfectly matching gyaru types, but I think I can at least make an argument for most of them based on some combination of voice type, hair color, and at least some of their outfits, but I haven't watched a ton of some of them, so for those who oshi them, feel free to either shoot it down or add better arguments.

Mel: blonde ditzy type gyaru, her more modern looking outfits kind of give me the gyaru vibes.
Choco: blonde onee-san gyaru that matured but kept some aspects of the voice. Her original and the schoolgirl outfit stand out.
Aki: blonde flirty type gyaru. Of her outfits, the second, gives me the most gyaru vibes, unless you count her high school uniform in Error.
Matsuri: flirty type gyaru, her two brown outfits seem the most gyaru-ish to me
Roboco: ditzy type voice, lots of accessorizing, her various outfits where she's wearing just a top feel kind of gyaruish to me.
Ririka: Pretty much a perfect shirogyaru

I want to see Mel perform live. I don't care how long I have to follow her for that dream to come through.
