This is an analysis without source, so take it with a grain of salt, but let's look back at where the audience for each of them originally came from.

Hololive (2017) came before Niji (early 2018), but they were both literal whos compared to the giants of Kizuna Ai, Kaguya Luna, gamebu and related vtubers at the time.

Niji started getting bigger first with 2 major things:
- Kanae (and to a lesser extent Kuzuha/ShizuRin/Shibuya Hajime) getting into the center of FPS scene (was getting in JP streaming for the first time) along with big FPS chuubas at the time like Master, Akkun, Kuromu, even Tsukasa. Note that Chihiro and Elu wouldn't become relevant until the Apex era later on.
- Mito (and to a lesser extent Deron/ShizuRin/Kenmochi) getting into the Kizuna Ai + Heavenly King clique. Sora also did that but to a less successful degree.
- "Virtual-san wa miteiru" was basically the all-star at that time and aside from the Ai clique, another group you might notice was Game-bu (a mixed group of Brave vtubers that relied on bantering between boys and girls to work). they were well-loved.
- Another giant was Dot Live, but Siro was their only anchor in the bigger scene and she was only really close with Akari and Aoi, so inconsequential in the end

These 4 points are to show you that: Nijisanji was in right position to capture all the Kizuna Ai/Kaguya Luna/Game-bu/Dot Live audience after they imploded with their respective tragedies.
Tsukasa joined the Niji affiliate program, Peanuts-kun (and thus Ponpoko) became close friends with Kenmochi/Mito and such, Tamaki leveraging her own popularity with forming a circle with Belmond/Maimoto/Gundou (with an addition of Roberu later on) were all results of this. Note that the most relevant Holo during this time was Aqua, because she played with these groups revolving around Nijisanji more than with other Holos, including her pairing with Mea or past relation to Njiji's Ex-gamers.

This is HaruLuna (consist of Haru and Luna), the paired mascot vtubers for Heiwa Net pachinko. They debuted about 2 years ago, have been getting pretty decent ccv recently (like 2k+) and are pretty well-connected (which you wouldn't know going by their channel, but I've seen them appear on other people's channels several times).

They are not my favorite pair, but the most underrated pair that is still active imo.
