Barley could work since that was the bread we made at the /who/ bakery. That and marbled rye. Marbled rye was really good with cream of potato soup and ham sandwiches. The bakery would have expanded into a deli eventually. Then the rangeban hit and the thread died.

Since I'm gonna have population centers on the surface, and past the snow line on mountains, I gotta figure out how high altitude snow actually works. Is there a lot of precipitation up there? Would you need snow plows? How did they clear snow out of streets before motor vehicles?

Okay, so it seems like the rain shadow effect makes it so that precipitation on the high altitude regions is quite low, I'm seeing just a few inches per week for the really high places. Also, the low temperatures makes it so that the snow isn't too sticky, so with judicious use of the strong winds, I might be able to keep the streets swept from snow using the wind, think that might be neat.

>> No.67732026

If I recall the higher you go the less humidity you get. Mountain snow is very dry and powdery. The reason is because the colder it is the less humidity the air carries. The driest times in North Texas is not summer. It's winter. Anyway look up the water cycle in the Himalayas. Clouds form under the peaks because its too cold for water to go higher. Mt. Kilimanjaro is also a good mountain to look at despite Manbearpig saying global warming ended the snow. Depending on where your water source is at mountains ranges are always humid on one side and dry on the other.

If the intense cold, frostbite-inducing winds, high UV radiation and low oxygen levels don't bother you, high altitude alpine environments sounds pretty nice. Convenient powdery snow, lots of bright sunshine, not too much annoying precipitation, great views, no muggy evenings, no moskitos.

>> No.67735598

Funny. Sanallites live in space with no atmosphere protection and limited oxygen. I think Baker-chan will be fine on the mountain peaks.

Speaking of Baker-chan I do want her to have a spacesuit but the spacesuit is only used for hazardous environments. I'm debating whether or not to give Baker-chan a skin-tight retrofuture space suit or clothes from the current era. I could do both where the suit is so light its like wearing nothing at all. So its easy to throw clothes over it.

Yeah, I guess it worked out that a bunch of nations ended up on wetter west coasts. Lots of prime estate on east coasts with less muggy climates, there's probably a Ukraine-tier farming foodbasket somewhere in those temperate deciduous areas in the northern continent.

>vnuggets wear asbestos
holy based. I guess it must be a less volatile or harmful form, or their lungs are built different. Or maybe they're tanking the slightly higher chronic respiratory illness rate and there'll be a massive class action later on, pretty cool in any case! I speculated that Bijou's hair might be some kind of asbestos. Do you think it would make good light armor? I feel like it'd be a lot rougher on cutting weapon edges at least.

Death comes early for vnuggets after all…
Asbestos by itself’s relatively easy to cut or even torn so that probably won’t make great armor. It’s fibrous though so I think you can make something resilient yet soft like gambeson if you weave it with other material! The /vnug/ fabric’s actually implied to be like that as well (I’m thinking mycelium fabric and maybe something from insects)

Tarantulas are pretty hairy, wonder if you could weave that hair into some kind of fabric. Though you're probably thinking of silk and such. Hmm, cotton and such probably won't be an option for clothing in the deadbeat mountaintops, maybe the main fabric will be something made from a Yak-like animal's fur.

176 cm tall, internal body temperature 19 degrees celsius, long grey hair usually worn in a grey pony tail, eyes are salmon orange and glow dimly in the dark. Her skin is smooth and blindingly white, like all deadbeats'. She wears a partial set of steel plate armor with a bandolier of magical frozen tomahawks and a longsword. Likes to tease her friends and mock her enemies. Got broken out of prison a few months ago, she's very well connected in the Morijigoku (criminal) underworld.
Or something like that? Loves fluffy sheeps also, she has a watamate cousin. Ah, and her favorite food is flan.
