Agree on the map (Seems like we like picrel)
Re-gen biome map (I can try to import picrel into azgaar, generate biomes, and then draw a biome map on picrel based on that?)
Update country map with /choc/, /pink/, and /gem/ (bordersanon doko)
Get a new archive document going >We can hypothetically just copy the current archive and have someone repost the link to a new one at the end of every thread with all the compiled lore if we don't want a singular archive anon
Kinda sounds like a recipe to pass an outdated archive around and have stuff go missing desu

Here's your biomes

>> No.67247239

>>67236111
That's a pretty awesome question... Since we're talking bio-engineering, I guess that would be artificial, directed evolution, so I guess the questions of the evolutionary pressures that would lead to this could be ignored. The are two big methods: Being able to absorb the heat of re-entry without damage, and being able to evacuate the heat of re-entry fast enough to not be damaged; more likely, a combination of the two.
The first one is mainly a matter of making your heat-sensitive components insulated from the hot bits. For example, in a liquid water-based creature, you'd need a good amount of thermal mass that the heat can be dumped into without conducting that heat to the more sensitive parts, for examples a lot of padding of high-hydration tissue, an air gap, and the a more sensitive core with the "brain" and stuff.
Only that won't be enough though, you'd want some way to shed off heat. If the animal can grow ceramic plates of sorts, those plates could reflect most of the energy and soak up the rest while hopefully not conducting too much back into the creature. I think the shuttles did something like that.
It could also grow ablative shielding, which is designed to heat up to high temperatures, and be worn away as friction and fall off the creature, taking the energy with it. That's the most common method for non-reusable capsules I think.
Something more exotic it could do is blast a jet of gas/plasma in front of it, and have that gas simultaneously absorb the energy from the re-entry and reduce friction with the atmosphere. I don't think that has really been used IRL, but it sounds pretty cool.

>> No.67248603

>>67247239
Blocking heat from re-entering the atmosphere is easy. You just need a low-friction but high melting point material. Either that or you need lots of material that just won't burn up. Transferring heat where it needs to go is more complicated. First you need to research a little rocket science. Have you noticed the shapes of missiles and rocket ships? They are shaped like that to reduce air drag and friction when going through the atmosphere at very high speeds. The cone shapes on the tips of rockets where the crew is dissipates the heat from the front to around the back of the cone where there's more surface area. The bigger surface area dissipates more heat than the front. And common sense says too much heat in a small space leads to catastrophe. Pan pan!

It’s a bit far away and the climate zones aren’t connected now but if we assume this planet has a geological history similar to Earth then I can see most of the continent’s equatorial highlands once belonging to the same vast steppe-tundra during the Last Glacial Maximum! When the planet warms up the different highlands become separated and ten thousand years should give them enough time to evolve into different species. Maybe /morig/ has a similar plant to /vnug/ that shared the same ancestry from that time and they’re still similar but not identical? (in case you want to add your own spin to it)
I also started thinking about what kinda plants and animals will /vnug/ have. My idea for this version of dreamwort’s similar to the Saussurea obvallata plant I posted back there. It still has the same magical properties that it uses to survive and growth even in freezing temperature, but unlike the old /vnug/ tundra this time the freezing winter comes every night so I imagine its effects are more intense. A side effect’s that the flowers (technically the bracts) will glow during the night as they keep themselves and any bees hiding inside warm. Their magical heat makes them more cold-resistant than most herbaceous plants so most of the /vnug/ moorland’s dominated by them, turning the entire heath into a starry sky at night! I imagine /vnug/ people will assign a spiritual meaning to them, like the plants are where dead souls reside to help the living. It’s fitting because I plan to reuse the same magic system from old /vnug/ so a lotta magic juice will come from the essential oil, leaf water and honey from plants like this! (plus other plants like the giant groundsels) I tried to make a new genus for plants like these but the best I can come up with is Psychestia
For the cloud forests I’m thinking of incorporating some form of mycorrhiza but I haven’t worked that out just yet

Man I've seen that map before but it always blows my mind how damn far the ice sheet reached.
I'll have to think about this plant cousin... I think thee amped cryo-magic will have all sorts of neat outcomes, but I'll have to think about it so that it all works together. An alpine valley full of those glowing flowers sounds like a very pleasant image. Also happy to hear of the return of the magical juice lol. Psychestia sounds pretty good convincing enough that I thought you were referring to an IRL genus at first and went to google it and got 0 results lol.
>>67255205
Oh, yeah I guess you'd wanna know that lol. Sorry not sorry, hopefully a dictionary getting too many words isn't a problem. It helps that the sumerian-rooted words are specifically linked to death, religion, magic and tangential topics, so any word I come up with that I can figure could come in handy I add it to a file I started. Like Temples of the Ilim is what I'm thinking of calling the main religious order, Ilua will be a spiritually significant profession, the distinction between Usreap and Kilul will be important etc. They'll probably show up first in a doc about said religious order.

Since Mori's ice affinity got canonized with the Fire N Ice MV, I think /morig/ is going to lean into that a lot more in this iteration. Since a lot of the country is up in that huge mountain range (Might shuffle the borders around to displace more of the land into the mountains), I think they might be snowy mountain people. The Others from ASoIaF come to mind when I think of those deadbeats. As described in the books, with snow-white skin, garment and armor that looks like ice and slender limbs (they look a lot less ethereal in the show).

The recipe I got wasn't from Disney but it's really really good. You make it out of a sweet vanilla custard. Then you add food coloring and sea salt to taste. When salted right it's got a buttery and creamy taste with a fluffy texture.

As for sea salt. It's usually just rock salt finely ground up since most rock salts come from trapped sea water compressing for tens of thousands of years.

Oh no. Breadog's food autism is out of control again.

The ship can land. You can thank space magic for a little bit of gravity power. I'm rethinking how the gravity would work. One idea is that you can compress space. Not a lot. Just a little tiny space too small to see. This creates a small gravity well that pulls anything light enough into it. The small gravity well is strong enough to precisely control things like a light airship or a pod floating in space. The gravity wells are too weak to weaponize. They're used to precisely pilot ships once in zero-G. Or in the airship's case help control where it floats when landing.

But if anyone has better ideas for Sana then go ahead. I'm just writing the floating bakery airship because I want to as a non-canon story.

Saplings might be a bit skittish before coming out, but our curiosity will get the better of most of us; we'll show up.
The elders might just ask for some tea instead of icecream sammies.
If some of of the treants get close, just let them look around, the Matre will make sure they don't break anything or anyone.
Will you be needing any supplies before you leave?

Looks like Saplings haven't changed much from great great granpappy's diary. Its a diary of life in the old world before the world change. I don't know if there's any Saplings alive from that era.

As for supplies: its the usual stuff: foods that can be canned like fruits and vegetables, maybe some milk and honey from willing animals, mushrooms, spices, salt, firewood, and clean water. Though the baker will wants something to bring home and maybe some livingbark to fix up her prosthetic hand.

>fruits and vegetables, maybe some milk and honey from willing animals, mushrooms, spices, salt
We can do most of these fairly easily and would be happy to trade
>firewood
This would be available, but relatively "expensive". Some bartering would ensue.
>livingbark to fix up her prosthetic hand
The local Matre would certainly be willing to help with this, but if theres a story behind it, that might be the cost

>These deadbeats are completely different from great great grand dad's records.
That's true, they're very different. Deadbeats from Vitubia were mostly human, with some physical quirks, they were a bit thinner, harder, paler than other people. Deadbeats from Viti undergo an irreversible deadbeatification that completely turns them into something else.

Yeah, they're still organic, at least normally. Just a bit cold! The magic flowing through them drops their body temperature significantly. Most deadbeats are a bit cooler than the ambient temperature, while those who are strong in the Mordimdima may be dozens of degrees colder. But strenuous physical activity still warms them up.
As for breeding though... In lots of cases, it'd be business as usual, just a bit cold. Deadbeat on deadbeat action would be comfortable, but it'd take some getting used to if one of the partners isn't a deadbeat.

In the land of /vnug/ where shadows play,
Salamoym reside in the light of day.
A people shaped by deities' design,
With features unique, a form divine.

Animal ears atop their heads,
Tails that dance where darkness treads.
Semi-digitigrade legs, a peculiar grace,
Born of gods or an ancient embrace?

Their blood, a tale of mystic lore,
Hemerythrin and hemocyanin's core.
Two binding molecules, a dance so rare,
In veins they flow, a secret to bear.

Physiologically distinct, yet they entwine,
With other species, a connection divine.
Compatibility defying nature's laws,
In the realm of /vnug/, a silent applause.

Healing swift, immunity strong,
A gift or curse, where do they belong?
Their blood, an elixir, a sought-after prize,
Yet its true worth beneath deceiving skies.

Exploitation echoes in the whispers of greed,
For medicinal claims, a desperate need.
Iris-shaded blood, a crimson treasure,
But truth obscured, lost in darkened measure.

Within and without /vnug/, a debate ensues,
The efficacy of the blood, the rumors refuse.
As shadows deepen, a melancholy descends,
A tale of exploitation, where darkness transcends.

For in the quest for salvation's embrace,
The salamoym suffer, a somber trace.
The land of /vnug/ weeps, a tragic plea,
As shadows consume, the end they foresee.

Most of the characteristics are from the previous generations of palkyries though I remember to make them more diverse now so as to incorporate other fluffy animal people from the other fanbases. Their thermal sense’s most useful in hunting living beings since their body temperature will usually be higher than the background, so I don’t think it’d actually be very useful in cave diving since everything’s the same temperature
As for their indoor lights I think they still prefer human-level illumination but they assign different values to colors. I imagine for them the color red’s for a cozy home feeling while white/blue light has a solemn and mechanical feeling to it. I think they’ll also prefer colors like black (the color of nature) and pink/purple (the color of vitality) but I don’t know if I should make their aesthetics go full visual kei

Having a reversed orbital direction is a fun worldbuilding twist. I don't think it has too many practical implications, besides the sun and moon rising on the other side of the horizon, and the inverted coriolis effect. Besides that I can't think of any issues... Most things in the universe are easily mirrorable, and if there's a direction it's mostly there because things worked out like that.
The only exception I can think of is molecular chirality, but I don't think that'll be a factor lol.

I thought about it some more, and actually there can be no real differences at all; a planet's rotation axis "up" direction is picked arbitrarily, we could say the Earth is rotating the other way if we had decided to pick the south pole as the "top". So I don't think this'll cause problems.

The only rotation I can think of that would fuck the world is rotating the world on it side like Neptune with its current orientation. But we're talking about a world ending event. If the world started by rotating from north to south, then east and west becomes the poles and the continents would form as they do now, but turned 90 degrees. That said Neptune looks like its rotating north to south from the perspective of Earth. If you stood on Neptune then your perspective is the sun rises from the east or west but your compass points north where the pole is.

Perspective is weird. In space we don't have reference points outside of the Sol System, Terra, and the Milky Way Galaxy.

For domestic you can have breeds of chickens and cows. Though if you're in the alpines you're probably limited to Highland cows, goats, and yaks. Yaks would depend on the size of your grazing lands. Taiga would be ideal hunting grounds.

Its going to be mostly forest animals because of our biome. Each sapling or sapling tribe might lean one way or another (vegetarian, carnivore, predator, quadruped, flying, etc), but there's no strict rule or norm for it.
Matres might be born with a specific sign that denotes their powers though.
There does seem to be a lean toward some more bird like creatures sometimes (picrel).

Still brainstorming how this might play out for the aquatic saplings though.

Ohhh. Not particularly? From what I remember about native american lore, the top down order of the totems had to do with gods they worshiped?
For saplings, obviously the only one true goddess is Fauna, but regardless, it has more to do with the fact that the saplification process will eventually morph some saplings' physiology. So some tribes might just have traditions or tendencies to end up being muted in certain ways.
