This is maybe an unpopular take, but I don't see an issue with streamers whether in hololive or elsewhere having favorites. I think it's natural, and the viewers upset the streamer likes someone else more than them are the ones with problems. If you interact with someone on a nearly daily basis and maybe even in a PL too, that person is going to feel closer to you then someone newer to the channel or someone with a disagreeable personality. If you interact with a streamer for a while and have a decent personality, you'll likely become a favorite too.

Keeping up a facade of equality to all to spare the menhera viewers from going nuts is unnecessary, if not impossible, and the viewers who assume it happens or demand it are doing nothing but coping to see the streamer as more than what they are. It makes things simple once you just don't care and you look at streamers as streamers. As a streamer, one will likely be happier just not thinking too hard on it and filtering out the people who get upset on it early on.

It's not healthy to watch streamers for the purpose of getting attention. If interacting with a mod or a viewer directly makes for good content, then the streamer did well.

I was a moderator a decade ago (on a website unrelated to e-celebs but with a forum) and anonymous modding doesn't actually work because users go fucking ballistic and start seeking mods to attack or plead for intervention from and the "invisible mods" end up being the inactive ones that don't actually do anything.

That said, I never even realized vtubers had mods outside of Roboco's only subscriber being her mod. I just assumed youtube auto-moderated their chats since it doesn't appear anyone else does it when you're watching. The only places where modding can be anonymous are a site as big as this where the person banning you has likely never even interacted with you before and is just behaving like a robot with no connection to the "community".

I don't think this is all true. At the very least, I've seen a few streamers admit to being on the opposite extreme where they just don't remember viewers at all because they treat chat as a soulless gestalt blob in the first place and treat it as a job.

This kind of thing can be an actual problem. Or become one, at least. I've seen far too many indie vtubers with nazi mods tat delete or ban anyone they personally feel is misbehaving. They're EXTREMELY trigger happy and they get away with it too, it sours the experience and makes you just never wanna have chat open to begin with, which to be fair, is a valid thing to do if you generally dislike the chat. There used to be a schizo in KFP who said that Kara just kept her mods after she stopped publicly rotating them. She used to make them get alt accounts in which they couldn't chat but suddenly put a stop to that system. Kiara has a preference for some users, some she'll openly call out by name despite not being artist/vtubers so I think she definitely still partakes but I don't mind as much since the only people with wrenches in her chat are usually her song writer or choreographer.
