Every one of these "pre myth vtubers" only started calling themselves Vtubers when HoloJP started to blow up in the west, it's far more pathetic that ironmouse is trying to revise history with "I-I HAVE BEEN A VTUBER SINCE 2017!" when she only started to call herself one in 2020.
I mean I get it, vtubing is fairly new everyone is vying for supremecy, giving in to your biggest competitor isn't ideal no matter how much of an overwhelming advantage they have.

There was a period around early 2019-2021 when Nijisanji had a legit claim as the "King" of vtubing with .Live and Gamebu being their next closest competition. This was also when streaming started to replace the recorded video meta and when Ai started reclining fast. Things only started changing after Myhtmania cemented Hololive as the number 1 vtuber corpo globally but even then, Niji could still claim to be the top vtuber corpo in JP. That's pretty much no longer the case now after 2023 with both Pekora and Marine cementing themselves as the top vtubers in JP with only Kuzuha and chinman being able to contest them.
