From the looks of it they finetuned the existing SDXL model. It's not like they trained it from the ground up to prove that SAI is wrong. It just means that finetuning with better captions makes the model better as long as the core is strong enough to handle it.
If SAI were to train the model from the ground up with similar concepts it might result in shit. Their job is to make a good base. It's another's job to tune it to their needs.

This is without LoRA. AnimagineV3 has been trained on 1.2 million images on Danbooru, so most of the bigger vtubers should have been ingested by the model.

Really not seeing the appeal of SDXL.
It's slow, wastes data on vague knowledge of characters and styles that is much better left to LoRa, speaking of barely has any LoRas.
And everyone's outputs look the same.
There are some niche things it does a bit better in terms of posing, probably due to the broader dataset.
If switching between XL and 1.5 wasn't such a pain in the ass it might be worth using XL to gen base images and then fixing them in 1.5 (or even the inverse for certain small details like eyes, which it seems quite good at), but at least on Vlad switching requires a full restart and changing several settings.

1.5 comparison, "cherry picked" out of the first 4 outputs I got (same as the SDXL output). Took maybe 6 minutes, not counting restarting WebUI and setting up the settings.
No manual fixing (while I deleted an additional tail on the XL output. Not a big deal), just inpainting the face once.

On Vlad I have to do a full restart to switch between "Diffusers" and "Original" otherwise it drowns me in errors.
I also have to disable dynamic thresholding for XL, which means changing a whole series of other settings, plus worse outputs of course. I think I could simplify the switching a bit, there was an extension for saving sets of settings.
Still, it's the restart that eats time.
