Then gen 4 debuted and everyone got pushed to the side. Hololive would win the western market because of Coco and covid.

The Chink pandering also made them grow in SEA and the West because of Chink clippers, and that's where luck comes in. Hololive managed to attain a sizable Western audience without lifting a finger.

They didn't have a first mover buff you retard. There were already hundreds of vtubers at the time and vtubing was dominated by the four kings. In 2018 it was still anybody's game and even when Nijisanji had pulled ahead they still had a lot of worthy competition.

No they didn't. They had a lot of vtubers, but the brand wasn't big at all and was almost entirely carried by Mito. They became a brand in the latter half of 2018 thanks to Gamers and SEEDS. Upd8, ENTUM and .Live were much bigger because they had star power behind them.
