ESL-kun, her sentence is completely fine and something a native speaker would say too, phrased exactly like that.

She's' getting these metal parts removed since the bone should be fully fused back together.
And yes, the process does involve cutting off part off her face, which is why she had to worry about her jaw dislocating and falling off.

It's fucking insane, the crazy things we can do with modern medicine.
Either way, I really hope Kronii's happy with the results and it will be a quick and painless surgery.

I had lockjaw for like a month as a kid. Could only open my mouth halfway and if I forced it, it would make a clunky sound. I remember I went to the dentist just for cleaning but it was hard because I couldn't open my mouth fully.

I didn't tell anyone about it assuming it was temporary, but in hindsight I was lucky to be correct.

That's still TMJ corrective surgery.
You're thinking of where they just completely remove the completely remove the joint and replace it. Where if that's the case, the metal plate would not be removed.

I simultaneously can't wait to and dread the day bionics became viable for limb/joint/bone replacement

>> No.66330336

>>66329465
That might be either a result of the alloys used at the time or something that occurred after being removed. I know artificial hip and knee joints have to be replaced eventually, but that’s due to wear instead of corrosion and the people who get those usually don’t live long enough to need replacement.
>>66329480
No, dealing with an actual medical condition. Read the thread for more details.

We need to find a way to make cells reknew/regenerate better so we can just grow things back better. Lose a leg? 8 months with some rehab until it grows back. Bust out some teeth? Watch what you eat for a month while they regrow. Serious burns all over? 2 months before it you are as good as new

>> No.66330614

>>66330385
I do think that's ultimately the best solution to injury and mortality in general, but let's not kid ourselves, we're not making changes that big to our DNA for a long while still. Prosthetic limbs or joints on the other hand are most probably coming by mid 2030-es.

>> No.66330944

>>66330336
a big issue for people who need a hip replacement earlier (think like 60's) is that it also means you have to take into account that you then also need a replacement every 10-15 years. So when you could be healthy otherwise you'd just be continuously recovering from surgeries in your older years.

>> No.66331565

I don't get it what even is this? Does this mean her entire jaw would have fallen off if not for the surgery?

>> No.66334009

>>66331565
No anon, the surgery IS the cutting and reshaping of the bones. That's the point. It is the purpose of the surgery, to form a better skull shape that doesn't cause jaw joint issues.

>> No.66334615

>>66330944
Another issue with hip joint replacements we had to find out (and fight the manufactures to take responsibility for) was that the cobalt in the joint would degrade into a toxic sludge that poisoned the patients from the inside.

It's TMJ, meaning the joint in the jaw is misaligned which causes both pain and other complications to daily living like it's harder to sleep, or hear. The only way to fix it is either replacing the joint or reshaping the jaw itself.
Kronii's jaw wouldn't have fallen off if she did nothing, but she'd be in constant discomfort and pain.
