Because they were a thing when the majority of today's vtuber consumers weren't aware of them. To be fair though, I did watch a fair amount of Artia when I got into chuubas around mid-2020 since she was one of the few that would stream in English and would stream on twitch as well. As someone who used to watch a lot of flesh streamers before, it was an easy and brainless decision.

She could be a vtuber today with a sizeable following, had it not been for her backstabbing and one of the biggest yabs in vtuber history.

You can compare them to HoloID and Hana Macchia from when NijiID was a thing. Sure they spoke English, but understood cultural references and humor are pretty important too. Plus, being multilingual is cool and all, but constantly switching languages when addressing an audience only works if they're just a skilled. If they only know one language, at least they can treat it as cute girl makes cute noises. If they have poor control over a second, the brain switches between listening mode and interpreting mode. It gets confusing for that group.

Didn't get into HoloEN before 2021. In fact, I remember first watching Gura's "a" clip from Hololive's 2020-2021 New Year's stream. I'm EOP as fuck too, but the streams/vods I caught in 2019-2020 were majority JP.

I worked with Chinese CNC manufacturers before, and this is unironically 100% real. I had a friend who commissioned about $50k worth of CNC alu parts and he paid extra money for them to do q/c on all the pieces, but when the parts arrived to him, 70% of the parts were all fucked up, and out of spec, and this was before they extorted him for another $10k in "shipping fees" that "they forgot to add on", saying if he doesn't pay they won't ship the parts out to him.
The shittest thing is that if you aren't based in China, you can't fight it in their legal court cause 9/10 times the court will just favor the Chinese manufacturers, which happens a lot in the field I work in. But companies still go to China because it's extremely cheap and worth the risk -- that 50k commission my friend did would've been 200k+ in the US, and 100k+ in Europe.

Artia streamed on Twitch, which generally this board doesn't favour. Civia was just getting started with her content on Youtube when the whole Taiwan incident happened that led tot he shutdown of the branch. Those were the only two with any English; the rest streamed on bili, primarily in Mandarin. This board is mostly EOP, mostly Youtube-only, and if there's anyone still around who actually watched them live they've been swamped by the influx of new Vtuber fans who weren't around in the past.

Yogiri streams are probably the most accurate to a normal girlfriend experience. Watching her is like the stage of having a girlfriend where you've been together for a long enough period of time where you're just able to enjoy each other's company, rather than the honeymoon stage where you're constantly doing lovey dovey gestures. She didn't really play games outside of Minecraft, Tetris some rhythm games and for some reason gushes about Trials of the Cold Steel. The only anime she talks about are various slice of life shows, gundam, and HoriMiya. Her main stream content was zatsudans and karaoke and both go on for like 5 hours because gets distracted constantly and show you some random dumb silly thing she saw on social media or on the street or she'd decide she wants to do something else like sing nursery rhymes and children's programming theme songs for the next half hour. It's totally understandable why she was the least popular member, she was probably the least otaku, the least gamer, the least overly GFE, and the least gimmicky, but she was probably the one I liked the most because she felt the least like a character and was just a normal girl who liked normal things.

They probably had their fair share of fans back when they were still with Hololive, it's just that when Myth was putting eyes on Western VTubing, HoloCN was not long for this world because China decided to become THE number 1 villain in the Chuuba fanbase. As a result nowadays even /here/ the only two who register as a blip in people's heads are Yogurt and Artia.

The only one on one collabs from CN outside of China were Artia and Moona's kino ark collabs and Civia and Haato did an Animal Crossing collab. There was also a few bilibili streams where the JP girls visited the CN server and a couple CN girls would show them around(they didn't hop on a discord call though, it was all in game chat based)

I hate bilibili as a website, but there are still two features I think youtube should just outright steal from them. The first one being their collaboration system where you can, with consent, list who contributed to the video and the video is then turned into a shared upload across each channel involved where the views are all shared(this also makes it harder to delete videos when one channel suddenly nukes their content, which is how a lot of hololive official uploads survived being wiped on bilibili). The other being the feature that lets you upload a set of videos as one upload, basically when you click a video, if you used this, it will have one video but contain set of videos connected to them that won't take up channel space. Yogiri used this for some covers to upload the acapella versions of her songs alongside the original, some used it to include behind the scenes stuff alongside the video, some used it to have different povs of the same video.
