I mean there's been at least 2 waves that have been debuted after Iluna. Hell, one of the Krisis dudes left before debuting because he saw the writing on the wall already. Maybe she wasn't up to date with everything that was happening (plausible) and Niji didn't really start imploding until the middle of last year so I can see her being stuck between a rock and a hard place. I'll say this much though. Any woman dumb enough to debut in NijiEN, especially now that Phase is a legitimate option, is dumb as fuck. If you're a woman, you either aim for the high heavens (Hololive), you go to phase as a backup plan, or you join some small corpo / stay indie so you can build up your resume. Some people might say that they can always go the Niji > VShoujo route, but I think that at this point, any wave after xsoleil is probably not seen as worth poaching by VShoujo.

Sure, joining NijiEn is still better than being a 2view, but that's more of a dead end thing at this point. Joining NijiEn is basically you giving up on the holo dream because they're never gonna pull another Luna at this day and age. And the more Niji waves get debuted, the less "special" being a NijiEn member becomes. Anon, who do you think the big spenders are? The ones perfectly content with their life? No - the big consistent spenders have a few common traits: working, lonely, wanting attention. There is a reason the GFE experience vtubers (like Rushia) brought in a lot of money, even though it ultimately contributed to her downfall, and that is because they tailored to the gachikoi. You can work towards dissuading a gachikoi fanbase in your population and sure, maybe you'll be happier as a streamer, but you certainly won't be as rich.

I only know one special case where culling the fanbase didn't matter. The chuuba Futakuchi Mana is arguably one of the more unlikeable vtubers: an outspoken commie/tankie, very abrasive, feminist, dislikes majority of guys. Yet, she makes enough to pay rent? Why? Because she makes her income through stream/music sales with a niche in the metal community. She hardly streams, and superchats/viewership are minimum when she does stream.

To cut the 'cancer' as you call it out of the fanbase, you need to have a consistent income that doesn't rely on superchats, aka something passive that people aren't actively paying you. Good luck getting lots of the cut from something like music streams though with Niji being Niji.

Yes, and that's why Phase (and idol pre-yab) were important parts of the vtuber ecosystem. Not everyone is gonna get into Hololive. Joining VShoujo is only possible for their orbitors, exholos, and pre-iluna Nijis. NijiEN has a dog shit reputation now so anyone joining post xsoleil is pretty much fucked unless they suck management's (and Luca's) cock like Millie and Enna. Vtubers needed a middle ground, somewhere that they could realistically aim for without having to go indie. JP has a slew of mid tier corpos that can serve as both a good source of income while also being a farm league that is sometimes used by the bigger corpos when they're recruiting. I'm assuming that this was what VTA was suppose to be before it got killed. And that's what the En Scene is missing right now.
