So, the reason why she is doing bad at this boss, is because he is a caster with a shield you HAVE to break to hurt him.
Because she gets up close, all the spells target where she is.
Being in midair makes it tough to dodge, being too close makes it tough to see some of the spells, as well as being sooner you need to react to it.

She has to play defensively, and DODGE, and attack.
She should know considering her history of games how to do so.
