happy new years fellas. how has everyone's writing projects been going. i've been pretty hard at work on actually getting tower of tattle part vi out, because it's way longer than... it's probably as long as parts 1-5 combined honestly. been trying to get it done in the free time between other stuff like setting up a web novel. haven't posted much knowing that it was a long way away from finishing, though, but i figured new years was a good time to check-in.

Yeah lol. Tower of Tattle has definitely had some scope creep. Basically, I designed it a certain way for the contest, but I didn't actually hit the deadline. Once I realized I could spend as much time on it as I wanted, though, I figured I'd just take the nascent plots that were present and expand them to their most actualized form.

As for the alt!Suisei vn, yeah I'd say so. I have the bad habit of always having lots of projects lined up. But, as much as it drives me nuts, I've learned over the decades to stop doubling down on my bad habit by splitting attention between everything. I'm amazed people still remember that I was the same one working on that one, honestly.

For what it's worth, Stilted Stellar is actually one of the projects I've got that excites me the most, so I doubt I just abandon it. It's just that I can't remotely promise any timeframe for it. The thing is, if I do get a web novel actually going, things actually change a lot when I'm actually making money off writing. As contradictory as it sounds, and I know my habits, even if I have the added burden of managing a web novel with a regular release schedule, knowing that my writing career has a financial future makes it a lot easier to focus my efforts on each personal project. But yeah I mean, not to blog too much about it, but Stilted Stellar is definitely high on my passion list.

The descriptors in the last 2 paragraphs feel particularly stiff. Like older woman and younger boy doesn't really need to be told at this point, and at this early exposure in Basuki's and Reine's relationship to the reader, it might be better to write a few exchanges of that small talk. Give the reader and (You) a real feel for how Reine conducts herself after first getting to spend time together again.

I think it would make sense if Reine lets certain aspects of herself be exposed around her nephew if she feels safe with him in that regard. I would be weary of basing your characterization around just a few songs though. There's a lot more to the peafowl you can take full advantage of and make shine through your writing.

The Calli one is based off a shared verse me and a few friends crafted. I share that verse with a Kenzoku, a Koronesuki, a 'Crat, a Joshu, a Nakirigumi, a Miofa, and a Hooman.

I asked /hag/ about peafowl auntie. As for my story, they're the only two into anime and the rest of the clan kinda underestimates them for it especially Reine. Compounded with the fact that her egss are dying, she realizes that yuri aint all thats its cracked up to be.

For the fights I'm just linking a bunch of yakuza battle themes. If I had to put OPs and EDs in though, I'd take the Monogatari approach and pick a different OP and ED each chapter based on the characters that appear. It might not fit as well thematically (by that I mean the lyrics and whatnot), but most Holos have made at least one decent orisong or cover.

Perhaps it's just me but, this felt strangely melancholic. Like there's a thread of sadness running through it despite how fluffy everything is supposed to be looking from the outside. I guess it's a side effect of how the narration is initially presented coloring the rest of the work... and honestly I think it works. Towa is a splash of color lighting what would otherwise be an introspective depression. If there was anything I'd say wasn't working it would be that the contest limit of 25k made this entire piece feel like it's stretched thin, especially since it covers multiple months and an epilogue. Everything to do with the cat and splitting apart felt well executed but, by nature this felt like a slow burn concept condensed into the word count.
Nitpicks
The bandaid scene feels weirdly orphaned with where the need for it came from. I can assume it comes from the guitar p;aying in the previous scene but it feels a bit weird that the only mention of his fingertips getting hurt from playing too much is in that one instance.

The entire thing had a lot of heart but not a lot of polish with lots of things being half baked (iroha plot, the narration getting dropped half way through, etc). Still it manages to deliver some pretty good scenes, the foreplay to their first time being a highlight of the fic. Even so, it feels like something more suited to a multi-chapter romance fic than a one-shot. I liked it, but the flaws do kind of stick out.
