>What is /kayfabe/?
Kayfabe is a thread for viewers to find chuubas devoted to playing characters, who care about their lore/world building and integrate it into their streams, the discussion of vtuber ARGs, and meta /vt/ conspiracy theories/lore/ larping/ARGs. Vtubers who do offline content are also welcome.

Because we must prove Hana Machia wrong. Lets move beyond e-thots with anime avatars. We must become our characters!

>Do AI vtubers count as doing kayfabe?
Well yes and no. It's complicated. Can they keep up with their own lore? Are they just being themselves? These are the questions that keep us awake at night.

I wonder if it's because vtubing got popular in the west only after the vtuber meta moved from scripted videos to streaming. I feel like one of the appeals of streaming to a lot of people is that it feels more intimate and less acted.

Koragi recently did a collab with Nekoragi and Nezumi, actively switching control between three models she all made and rigged herself, while also having a voting system in place where chat get to decide which one gets a professionally drawn Live2D.

To me, some AI Vtubers are more kayfabe than others. Most are "Im a dude in 2023 who made a GPT". And that works, clearly. People, I, like Neuro-sama. People like dev streams and seeing behind the curtain.

This is the most kayfabe AI Vtuber I have seen. She has a solid, consistent personality and memory. Her streams often have a theme/story, sometimes across streams. The creator is absent and the AI never breaks character as an independent AI who became a Vtuber.

One of the reasons is because Western audiences want more candidness from vtubers. A vtuber maintaining a character comes off as them distancing themselves from their audience, and in turn the audience somehow feels that the vtuber thinks that they're better than them. This turns audiences off. So a vtuber has to strike a fine balance between playing their character well enough to uphold kayfabe, while being personable enough that they don't come off as pretentious, cold, and distant.

Shiorin is more kayfabe than most, her making short stories helps with the whole archive aspect of her character but I think Novelites do more kayfabe since they write poems in their OP and have a book club. Unless Shiori also has a book club with novelites and I just dont know about it.

On the topic: what’s a kayfabe? You guys seem to work under the impression that I’m some kind of fictional character. That I have a “backstory”, or “lore”, so that’s what I’ve come to call it. But everything you see on stream is 100% real. I am an actual wizard. There is zero pretending here.

Have you guys heard of RikoEru?
Former jp /meat/chuuba who even did a Q&A on the thread once back in the day. She rebranded as a Yuri kayfabe project where she plays Rikoru and Eruha in short yuri comedy skits, song covers and occasionally streams as one of the two characters.
I believe she's been working on a manga and other lore related stuff, but the woman behind the project is extremely menhera and goes through bipolar episodes that cause her to disappear for periods of time.
She's really cute and fun though and read and reply in simple English, but sadly all her content is in Japanese

/kayfabe/ itself was a arg inside a bigger meta arg, one that perhaps was never meant to be solved.
It filled its purpose to a degree, but it can still be connected to the greater one once more, if you want to play. We can help each other out I suppose.

Surely someone who plays args like to solve them, right?
I would start by checking the gifs in the old OPs of this thread, and the texts that came with it and which you ommited.
Of course if you are not interested feel free to be an unwilling pawn of the great war.
The only reward finding out will get you anyway is why this general began, and why all past and modern generals exists, including /asp/. It might get you some clout and viewers too I suppose, if you learn who are the folks behind this and where they been hiding all along, but thats only an if. Koragi benefited from them long ago yet still she didnt make much of it, but the connection remains.
This game has been going on since day one, and everyone involved secretly wants to confess to anyone that wants to hear it, but it is a puzzle meant for those who will come after.
