It's free to play so they lose nothing but time. I think the biggest draw for vtubers starting APEX is that it's a strong gateway for collabs and it has enough comeback mechanics to make it enjoyable even at low level play. Another factor is that a lot of JP streamers don't get hella pissed or competitive. Just click heads and if they die with 0 kills, 2-digit damage then it's all good.

The best example for this is Hoshikawa Sara who is not initially not good at FPS games and doesn't seem like the type to play the genre. She's still super weak but she's been getting proper coaching from Shibuya Hal which is a lot of time and dedication.
