There is an increasing feeling among both male and female indies that going corpo is a pretty shit deal these days. In many cases you seem to have to already be successful to even have a chance at becoming a corpo vtuber, and with all the harsh restrictions to game choices and the corpos taking large cuts of your money going corpo just isn't nearly as appealing as it once was. And with all the huge scandals with niji, and the lesser scandals with stars EN even the biggest corpos arent seen as a good deal. It's pretty common in private indie vtuber hangouts to have people posting these scandals to gawk at and thank their lucky stars that they don't have to deal with these kinds of problems.

For guys in particular it seems like there is no good option for going corpo. Both niji and holistars seem to give you relatively little reward in viewership numbers at debut to justify giving up the successful brand you have already built that you would need to even have a chance to get into one of them. The market for corpo males has become oversaturated at this point. To say nothing of the restrictions you would have to live with to work there. There really are 0 options for mid sized corpos, none of them hire guys. Small corpos have a terrible track record and no indie would advise another to join one in almost any circumstance.

There is a lot more motivation for females to join corpos, lots of medium sized corpos look pretty attractive, and holo is still seen as something like a golden ticket even now. But for guys it's pretty grim.

An indie has to be Shoto levels of big for this to be an actual concern tho. Even the least popular like Aster should be making more than what large indies are earning from his memberships alone, and then we’re not even counting superchats, streamlabs, VPs, merch etc. Going corpo introduces you to so many streams of revenue that indies don’t have access to.

You can't possibly make that kind of money as a low 3view indie. I think it's good that indies are thinking about the pros and cons of going corpo instead of just thinking it's all sunshine and gold as soon as they join a company. There's still opportunities like sponsorships, collabs, merch, etc. Being under a brand still helps you grow a little easier because they help promote you rather than you relying on only doing it yourself.

Oversaturation is a topic people love to bring up, but if you think about it, everything is "oversaturated". There's an oversaturation of streamers in general but there's still people making money off being a youtuber and a large twitch streamer. There's an oversaturation of fast food but smaller franchises are thriving because everyone's tired of McDonald's and Wendy's everywhere. There's an oversaturation of toy brands, snacks, music, anime. The oversaturation argument could be used for anything, but none of the categories I mentioned are "dying". A better word to use would be variety. A lot of people bring up the reason why they love Nijisanji is because they like how there's a vtuber out there for everyone. If they only stopped at around 5 or 10 vtubers, sure there will be someone you might like but they may not be "The One". I've heard of some anons switching oshis, finding more in common with someone else, etc. The whole oversaturation thing is just a scare. Variety is good and there are more vtuber fans being gained every day.

If the market is oversaturated, then how come that new holo girl group is getting popular already? How come small corpos are gaining new fans and viewers than they did a few months or a year ago? How come people are still excited to watch small corpo female vtubers despite there being dozens in the big corpos already? And there's still much fewer guys to choose from when it comes to corpos, so indies shouldn't be bummed about the "market being oversaturated" because there's still so many things that haven't been tried when it comes to males yet. I know this board loves to make fun of "fujobaiting" but how many other males do you see catering to fujoshi more blatantly out there? How many corpo males do you see that cater directly to yumejoshi? How many do fanservice in general? Most nowadays want to pander to "bros" like flesh streamers and still don't realize that going that route is less profitable in most cases. There's still no femunicorn-friendly corpo out there (granted it's because they're not very vocal, but still). So don't believe this whole "oversaturation" thing. Keep working hard, be a positive and uplifting person, and you'll find a place for yourself out there.

I think you're underestimating the amount of work necessary to get into a comfortable spot as an indie. There's scores of indies who've been streaming regularly for 2-3 years yet are still stuck at 2 views. Nijisanji is an improvement on their situation by an order of several magnitudes even if they turn out to be the smallest of their gen

Well that's kind of what the indies see as a problem. Almost any indie would trade being a 2 view for a position in niji, but the catch 22 is that niji doesn't seem to want to hire 2 views for any of their spots. As a 3 view or higher it becomes less and less of an appealing proposition.

That's the perception anyways. Very few vtubers keep up with past life doxes of newly debuting vtubers so the perception of reality admittedly is likely off somewhat. Honestly it's pretty rare for vtubers to continue watching corpo chuubas at all, most just don't have the time any more and would rather be doing self improvement kinds of things to get better at streaming.

I think you may be right on the money situation, but generally indies (especially males) just aren't quite as motivated by money these days. Even really talented indy guys usually have to spend months to even years to even see a cent of profit and start paying off their models and audio equipment. These guys stream because they love streaming, nobody really does it for the money this late in the game. Those guys burned out years ago. Girls have it easier in this respect, they seem to make significantly more at low levels of viewership than a guy could ever hope for.

I knew a few guys that were really excited to try to get into Stars EN. They really idolized vesper and to a lesser extent Magni, but after that whole fiasco played out they lost interest entirely. Their reputation took a massive hit. Niji has a similar problem with their reputation.

There are still a lot of guys who would like to joined a corpo of course but in the last 3 years or more the pros and cons have changed a lot, and the longer a guy spends as an indie the harder it is emotionally to leave your old community that you spent years building behind. For lots of guys going corpo is like selling out, trading all your old friends and fans from when you were nobody in exhange for more money and some genmates that you can only hope to become actual friends with but fear that you will just have to fake your way through it. It's a really hard decision to make.
