Burn out doesn't explain anything. Gura loves Mario Kart and was really excited for the DLC courses. She said she had a ton of fun participating in the previous years' tournaments.
So that must mean the reason Gura isn't joining the Mario Kart Cup is because she knows she won't have the time or energy to practice for the 2-3 weeks leading up to it.

What could it be that is taking up so much of her time and energy that she can't talk to us about and is preventing her from dedicating a few hours here and there to get used to the new levels? She said she reads and stuff, but she doesn't have access to her switch? What's keeping her so busy? Is she going to be traveling for the holidays? Or is she graduating and so none of this even matters to her anymore?
Keep in mind, even when she was sick at the beginning of this year and took months off, she still dedicated time to practicing Mario Kart and joined the New Year Cup. So what's happened to her that she can't even participate in next year's cup without a POV? One of the ways people fix burn out is by doing the things they enjoy.
