There's much less roleplaying nowadays, but I still think there are plenty of vtubers that do it and there are still some in hololive, but as most vtubers mature in the role and become more comfortable the rp isn't sustainable imo. Their true personality or something closer to it will gradually come out and they stop relying on a complete fictional character and something closer to who they are becomes their character

But the entire point of vtubers is for someone to play a character, if they let their own personality or whatever influence that character and it becomes interchangeable with themselves then what's even the point or difference in vtubers from flesh streamers. Vtubers were always meant to be a fake reality, but now they are basically the same as regular streamers but just with an anime avatar. Like Coco leaving Hololive in part because she had an identity crisis from playing someone she was not, and that clearly was the case given how different she is now compared to how she acted in Hololive.

Maybe that was the original point, but when someone streams daily their personality and who they are is going to become apart of that character and some of that character is going to influence them. They aren't interchangable but they move much closer to each other for most imo. I would say the point is what you said earlier "cute anime girls doing cute shit together" and for hololive a big part of the appeal is also them doing idol things like singing and performing. At least in hololive this stuff is a lifestyle for them. They are always recording stuff, streaming, planning shit, singing, hanging out with other hololive members, etc. This is a lot of their lives so all this just being a character just doesn't work.

Gura pulled me in the rabbit hole. Tried others. Still watch others' big events, like Birthday streams. Basically, returned to a normal fag without Gura. The Dolphins got exposed and my Ravens are Super Bowl bound.
Decreased anime with vtubers, so have a lot to catch up with. Even One Piece.
