Even now Hakka was strangling him with silence, any wrong movement and he could lie down next to Bettel and rip Bettel from his son's hands once more. Only Shinri had killed himself right in front of Hakka's eyes through his carelessness. Still, in one of the universe's cynical moments, it was Bettel that had to pay the price.
Axel was standing with the man Shinri had fallen in love with so badly that Bettel wasn't with them anymore. So obsessed with Altare that even as he watched Phantom trying and failing to bring his owner, his ribcage ripped open, his arm cut off cleanly, a saddened, betrayed expression adorning his face framed by his cotton candy hair back to life with squeaking and nibbling, he was thinking about the leader of Guild Tempus.
And then there was Hakka. Kneeling on the floor next to the clown, next to his best friend in the guild, the guy, when he sometimes sang love songs, whose name he would sing instead of "you" or "him" or "her" and then blush and laugh. Hakka was innocent, too innocent to be immediately angry at what his own father had caused him, too innocent to hold himself back and give Bettel one final kiss he would never be able to reciprocate. And Shinri knew that this would never heal. He tried denying it, downplaying it, saying it was carelessness - it wasn't, his stupor in that one critical moment bordered on ill-intent. He wished Hakka would just get over with it and scream at Shinri right there. Had he attempted to kill his own father in revenge for being too absent minded and thinking about his blue leader during an ambush, there would have been hope. Hakka could have forgiven him. But he went straight to Bettel and that's when Shinri knew that these wounds would never heal.
Bettel's brother and Phantom were hit the hardest by Bettel's death and during the funeral Bettel2 had passed out several times while Phantom was just shivering in Flayon's arms, seeming lifeless although all his vitals were okay. Flayon himself was a shell of a man, in complete denial, calling the whole funeral a stupid prank, screaming that Bettel hates him like he would say when they were having fun. Still, Shinri only cared about himself. He wondered how Altare would deal with this loss, he wondered if Hakka would ever forgive him. And if he still had a chance with Altare after this.
When the rest of Tempus left to have a festive meal in honor of their fallen brother, they all individually asked Shinri to not come join them as well as not joining any guild activities for the nearest future.
