If you're going to make a dedicated lore thing, just make sure to make it short. And I don't mean 10 minutes short, I mean like 3 minutes. Your backstory has some messiness to it, and it's kind of hard to follow, but if you can clean it up into a more coherent narrative that ends with you finding your audience or whatever, then you can probably make something very cute with that.
Also I think people imagine a big booming Gandalf-type voice when they read wizard memes like this, so skit-like shorts might be better for you

If I haven't yet, it's been out of a lack of the ability to do so in a satisfactory way, not because I haven't wanted to. If I'm going to make a lore video, it's going to be voiced, drawn (a simple animatic could work) and maybe even scored.

You're very good at zatsu, and talking to people in general. Viewers, co-streams ect. I don't really feel like there's too much dead air.
What you can improve upon I'm not too sure. The "too safe" observation is probably true, VTubers kind of need a big "thing" to happen to them to climb in viewers, and right now your game choices and streams don't seem like they'd just grab anyone out of the air. It could be anything from a viral stream moment or being one of the better karaoke streamers during the Christmas shit. Your audience is just /asp/ies right now so maybe try branching out with who you talk to. You can draw, meaning you can make fanart for people outside of /asp/. Doesn't even need to be big VTubers, just VTubers who talk to other VTubers.
