It really is nice. Nobody has ever used emote only mode messages to damage my channel. Chatters have damaged twitch in the past on emote only mode (or so it was percieved as so) but I find you run into far less misunderstandings on emote only mode as far as the current culture goes.
People don't naturally want to be nasty. Non-emote only mode just rigs things to make it easy to experience misunderstandings.
