I like this story twist. They're all infected with that shit already and will succumb to it eventually. They can only delay the inevitable. When Arcadum visited here I asked what would've happened if they had actually killed the people and he said that it would've introduced a mechanic early on that won't come about til later so I'm guessing that's what he's talking about. Eventually succumbing to the hate and just killing random people.

Arcadum's games are very high relative powerlevel compared to vanilla 5e, but it's also balanced around this fact. It would be no surprise if some of them get +1 weapons by level 2/3, what would normally be legendary artifacts or close to in vanilla 5e at like level 5/6. One died very close to the ending of the Violet arc (but was brought back after the final battle), another died because the player got Twitch Canceled from some scandal, and one more "died" so the player could swap characters so it was scripted.

Basically he gives players lots of out and it's pretty hard to die "die" unless you fuck up so hard and just get horrible RNG multiple times in a row. He is actually pretty good are creating hopeless situations and dice rolls only to not actually kill anyone by keeping mechanics for some situations very vague (like giving out extra "don't die" dice rolls or natural feeling deus ex machina to save people).

It's not so much as fight mechanic changes, but clashes. Even though he redid how clashes work for Giles, even from the prologue games there was no consistency to how they worked, what effects they had, or the punishments of failure.

Clashes are now in 3s? Player fails 2 times and wins 1 = player wins. Player fails 1 and makes 1, 3rd clash is just "ignored" and player wins. Clashes supposed to be based on the difference between the rolls so a 1 vs a 20 is a critical failure? This mechanic is almost always ignored unless its in the players favor. I'm not saying I hate how this works but it goes a long way towards creating "epic" moments and helping out players that are on the verge of failure.

Player Characters in his world setting are also borderline demigods, since they are the only things that have a full complete soul due to what would take paragraphs to explain why. That's why level 2 characters get to meet their fucking gods in person and do things you'd need to be much much higher level to do in standard 5e.

It's a bigger problem than you think. Anytime you go to a LGS or recruit players in general you're guaranteed to run into at least one or two people that want Mercer or Arcadum levels of "play". Yeah I know but then doing the Crowley ritual and summoning depthar to that camp actually reactivated the mist Into the Mist "fixed" in the prologue, and caused The Divine Wind to spend over an hour talking about travel plans only to discover the mist was back (do to a player asking their god if their plan was gonna be okay after they finished their talk) and having to totally change what they were gonna do.

So while it's hard for players to actually perma die, they can in fact fuck things up and cause derailments for other games because they are all mostly sync'd up timeline wise in the same land.

I love his DM style for two main reasons:
1. Its tailored to new players to an extent that even people who have no previous experience with DnD can get into it quickly and not feel like an idiot. This ties into the second reason, which is

Mists of Glies are very scary. During prologue they would sometimes roll on the prologue groups and creatures within would attack them. Was main horror element. Mists terrorized and prevented trade and travel until they were dealt with by Into the Mists. We actually know what they are, bit it might be to spoilery, could say if you want though

Lore dump:
The mist is basically a nanobot cloud literally standing for Mechanized Internal Suppression Transporter. It was originally made to deal with the "Eyeless Ones" (another infection). Unfortunately, due to the events of the last arc, a different infection, the Depthar, came to Verum and made the mists start malfunctioning and mutating the denizens of the mist (the Mistwalkers).

Now the Into the Mists prologue campaign helped recede the mists, but then the Among the Reeds fucked it all up (hilariously) by making a ritual to Crowley, the god basically responsible for the Depthar, and summoned uncontrollable depthar causing the mists to rise again.

Hopped into Mouse's stream and the first thing I hear is that the fanart showcase might be tomorrow instead so she could celebrate 600k followers on Twitch. And I'm just now realizing that Silver's STILL online goddamn. 6 hours in so far

We don't have confirmation on what caused the Titan's Eye, but it's pretty likely it's a vessel that the Eyeless took. The angel-dragon war is something that we don't actually know much about, but may be explored in a future campaign called Angel's Grace

I guess since people started throwing terms like dephtar and eyeless ones, I am gonna throw a lore dump what those are essentially. It's probably would be explained later in story, but if you are curios just HOW much Glies is fucked...

There are currently two main antagonists and two potentially world ending forces

Antagonists:
Otikata - most of knowledge we have was either repeated or told in this episode.

Pale Emperor - leader of Eclipse. Has access to a bunch of forbiden and dangerous knowledge and artifacts. Conquered all Eastern Kindoms using essentially pictures from satellites.

Forces:
Depthar - actual zombies from Resident Evil but with overminds and psionics. Highly adaptive (Essentially combination of T-virus and zergs). Strong enough dephtar can infect psionically. Thankfully severely weakened during their arrival to Verum.

Eyeless Ones - my knowledge is a bit contraversial, so I will use how Arcadum described them. Essentially Xenomorphs from Alien combined with Tyranids from Warhammer (Tyranids in how they act, infest and consume the worlds). Unlike Dephtar can travell space. They've been on Glies for some time but they were counteracted by the Mist, essentially nanobots placed here by advanced civilization to prevent their spread. Arrival of Dephtar however caused mists to go overdrive, since they were not designed to deal with two infections at once, so now, they are active again.

Arcadum is far from normal D&D though. If you want to explore his world specifically, begin by watching Gambler's Delight. It's a little bit of a crash course in his lore, as it's the first time it became super prevalent. Excellent cast too, Criken is the person who introduced me to this.

Yeah, Tearing Veil was evil. Never felt fully evil to me but that's probably because the "fully evil" of that arc would've been a Violet campaign. I'd argue only one or two of those characters was "good intentioned" though.

Mousey says she can walk very short, wobbly distances and needs assistive devices to do so. But considering when she started vtubing she was completely bedridden those are huge improvements.
