i hope fauna decides to play all 3 metal gears and i hope she starts with 1. judging by the last stream it seems like she only wants to play one of them but it makes more sense to experience the complete story of 1 and stop rather than skip to 3 and miss out on a ton of references and story bits. then if she decides to continue she can experience the evolution of the gameplay, experience the mindfuck that is 2, and end it off with the satisfying conclusion of 3. it probably seems like a big commitment to her but all 3 games together really is the true experience. plus i know she'd love the stories of all 3 (and grow to love the gameplay.)

after having played Undertale and this, I can safely say this game solved a design problem that Undertale had in that sense. You also can't repeat routes even if you try the same choices, Fauna just has yet to see the game doing that. Options will start to be greyed out, unless you load to undo a route or start a new game.

For example, you saw screen transitions going "Chapter 2: Damsel" a while ago, right?
That route, fyi, can end in two ways, with how Fauna did it (where the Princess becomes badly drawn, or she's simply a perfect maiden).. There's also another possibility of choosing to Slay her and enter a new Chapter 3 called "The Grey".

Either way, if you enter it and go to the void and talk to the hands / the entity, and then continue from that point, you won't be able to reach "The Damsel" again, as a screen transition. Your chapter 2 will definitely be something else no matter what. So yeah, you can't get a particular ending of a route, nor repeat it exactly if you've already finished it once. Chapter 3 has an alternative from another route that plays out differently, but that's unique to "The Grey". It's hard to explain desu and I'll admit I'm basically just going to shill this game and say it's good to explore it yourself, if streams aren't enough to understand it

Whichever one happens in your playthrough, once you get to finish "The Nightmare" in some way, you won't be able to reach it AND "Moment of Clarity" again; if you don't load a save to when you haven't entered a Nightmare Chapter, or start a new game.

More so especially because "Moment of Clarity" is one of those "Chapter 3" chapters that can't be reached via any other routes if not the Nightmare.
But yeah, if you want to see all the content, you'll end up save loading a lot because of this, because some lines can only be heard depending on your choices.

The previous game by the same studio isn't really meta and is pretty good spooky stuff. In general, yeah, good WVNs have some meta crap in them, or maybe the real issue is that a lot of western VNs are awful "comedy" "dating sim" garbage like Dream Daddy.
