The thing is, from what I can tell, Polka has this insecurity about being good enough for her gachikoi. With familial love you don't really have that element of insecurity and fear, you know your family loves you because well, they're family. Polka on the other hand, chooses to love her fans and they choose to love her.

I don't know, it can be hard to describe what it is, and I often ask myself if it's emotionally healthy for me to be this invested in her, as it's hard to love someone romantically without totally losing yourself to it.

I think there is a misunderstanding regarding this situation. I think many anons here thinks Polka's "codependency" with her fanbase means that she cares/loves and thinks about them each individually, that the same way she gives the the GFE, they give her the BFE, when that's obviously wrong. Like they think things like "oh she can't live without ME!", "oh she totally loves ME!", etc. when she would probably get disgusted if she saw one of her fans in person.
Polka's "codependency" is just your regular women needs of attention, social acceptance and validation, and in her case in particular, thinking that being a entertainer is what gives her life meaning.

It’s hard to know because I don’t watch “twitch thots” but I’ve always assumed that there are lots of women that fake this kind of thing for money or vapid attention.

But the anons in this thread make some good points. If she was in it for the money, there’s a lot of things she’d be doing differently, like more openly showing her vulnerable side in non-mengen content and advertising her sad clown stuff regularly. Rich is relative. You can have little money but no expenses so your are technically rich because you would not need much money to achieve your goals. You can also have lots of money but expenses or debts exceeds your income, so your still poor. Polka obviously is some what rich since she keeps expenses low by living in a small attic with a roommate, but at the same time makes enough money to pay for several covers song releases a month plus paying for all the rights to the karaoke songs she streams.
