The blocking is account based, which means that you can still watch ad-free if you log out. You won't be able to write in chat or post comments, but watching won't be a problem.
I'm sure you could set up a system where you're logged into one browser without adblock just to chat (ignoring the content) and then have a separate browser with the actual stream.

Twitch ads are worse. They break ad blockers a lot. Non skippable and long. Very aggressive. If you alt-tab sometimes they'll pause. Not sure if that's intentional, but it happens to me.

It's region-based. Youtube does this a lot, they test it out in one part of the world and then roll it out later elsewhere. I remember seeing the channel page looked different in a screenshot here some time ago and it hadn't changed for me yet . A few weeks later and it did.
I haven't seen any ads myself either, but I'm expecting it.

VPN yourself to russia/moldova/any country where google and by extension youtube cannot run ads
log out of your yt account
watch via embeds (e.g. holodex)
open the vids you want to watch in incognito

A lot of streamers hate the pre-roll ads but they can't disable them. One time a streamer got raided went from 10 viewers to 60 then down to 12 because of the pre-roll ad and he said "oh cool I got raided but everyone left like usual probably due to the goddamn pre-roll ad, I hate this shit so much."

Ads haven't been affecting me but I dropped my memberships on principle, Google can suck my hairy unwashed cock and those girls are doing fine without my money

twitch is a lot worse about trying to break adblocks but eventually I got it sorted out a month or two ago and it hasn't given me any hassle since so I'm assuming they either gave up or I found an ironclad solution for their current efforts
