Since there seems to be continued discussion in global might as well keep it in one place. After a break the first group session will be upon us. What are your hopes and expectations for the first full party session? Will Mori have them take on the powerhouses from the tutorials or give them something lighter weight to start? Will Vic succeed in forming a harem of hot Hunter girls + Watoto? Will Paradox/Onyx Path ever do anything with the monstrous opportunity that dropped from space into their laps? Will artists ever learn to give Scout an actual thong? Stay tuned to find out!

I just hope kiara doesn't take over the game. I don't even hate her but if her character is 50% of the game it will be terrible. I liked guras tutorial the most.

So anyone else curious what their first campaign will have as the antagonist? True Fae, whatever that Spirit was, Banes/Pentex/Magadon all seem miles too tough for newbies. A few weak vamps might be doable if they bring back-up in the form of the Brohood. Or do you turn it down even more, and stick to mostly humans with a vamp as the end boss?

Glad I'm not a tribalist and can enjoy both.

Both Watoto and Scout worked well for they're character trait, a goblin like human and a wild southerner who both have 1 INT. Both will act first and ask questions later but did it differently as Ame and Gura demonstrated when being guided by Mori.

Watoto's intro has a genuine sadness to it when you look past the goofy meme; he's clearly a developmentally challenged boy with a very sheltered yet skewed outlook on life.
His parents aren't the most mentally sound individuals either, but there's a tenderness and warmth to how they treat each other that contrasts how cold and frightening the world around them feels. His crackpot parents love him, and he loves his parents, and it's actually a little heartbreaking when Watoto has this unorthodox yet loving environment ripped away from him, and has to come face-to-face with a vast world that he's only ever heard horror stories about.
He's basically a homeschooled kid who lost the only structure he believed he could ever trust in his life, and is going to learn a lot of hard truths about the world outside of what his family has raised him to believe.

It's sad.

They're using "potions" because they don't want to outright state that Watoto is a drug dealer, anon. He sells drugs, not potions. The mushroom didn't actually make Watoto invisible, it just made Watoto THINK he was, and that placebo effected him into sneaking around better. >Why would they be called embeds?
Because they're literally embedded into the laws of the universe.

>An Embed is a rule or natural law already hard-coded into the workings of the world that a demon can tap for a specific effect. For a mundane example, consider a child who knows of a loose board in a neighbor’s fence. He can move the board, take a shortcut through the neighbor’s yard, and save himself the time of running around the block. Anyone could do that, provided they have the same knowledge the child does (that is, that the board is loose) and that they can fit through the opening thus created.
>Embeds work much the same way. Any demon can learn any Embed. The demon simply has to remember that the groundwork is there. As angels, all servants of the God-Machine are aware of these pathways, but they make use of them differently. Angels do not make conscious effort to use Embeds, they are able to do so simply as part of their missions.
>Going back to the example of the loose board in the fence, consider a dog or a cat that simply noses the board aside to get through. The animal doesn’t think of the fence as a barrier or the loose board as an anomaly; for all it knows, that loose board was put there specifically to allow it passage. When a demon falls, she loses this instinctive, subconscious understanding of the world and must relearn these supernatural secrets. When she does, she is able to use Embeds in specific ways.
>Embeds are not spells. They do not require ritual, sacrifice, or even specific knowledge or skill to use. A demon might justifiably liken remembering an Embed to a stroke victim relearning how to walk or ride a bicycle. The neural pathways are already in place and the muscle memory is there, it’s just a matter of training the body to reactivate these things.
>Angels have different capabilities based on their missions.
An angel doesn’t normally think to question whether it can make use of mystical subroutines that it hasn’t specifically been instructed to use, both because most angels don’t question their missions and because, again, these subroutines aren’t something that angels generally think about. That said, an angel that does start to consider these subroutines — thinking about the framework of reality, rather than just using it — might be getting close to falling. Once an angel does fall, she finds that certain types of Embeds are easier to remember than others, depending on her Incarnation.

Once an angel does fall, she finds that certain types of Embeds are easier to remember than others, depending on her Incarnation.

Demons also have a second sort of power, called Exploits. They differ in a few ways.
>In contrast to Embeds, Exploits are not subtle at all. While they use the same metaphysical subroutines as Embeds, they
are not relearned or remembered abilities but rather gross applications of the knowledge that the character already has. If an Embed is a word, and a set of Key Embeds is a sentence, then an Exploit is a shouted expletive. As such, Exploits are effective but run the risk of drawing attention.
>Consider once again the metaphor of the child using the hole in the fence to sneak through a neighbor’s yard. Applying that metaphor to Exploits, the child might kick the loose board free and use it to shatter the neighbor’s glass patio door. An Exploit takes the knowledge imparted by an Embed and uses it to better, or at least more dramatic, effect. Unlike Embeds, though, Exploits are obvious and flamboyant, and therefore a risk to a demon’s Cover.
>An Exploit relies on a demon’s knowledge of the world’s metaphysical subroutines, just like Embeds, but instead of gently applying this knowledge, the demon forces Aether into the system, overcharging it and directing the result. While learning to use an Embed is a matter of re-acquiring knowledge that the demon had as an angel, learning to use an Exploit is more a matter of application. Angels therefore do not use Exploits — even their more grandiose powers are perfectly in line with their missions and therefore the parameters laid down by the God-Machine. An angel that decides to emulate a demon, pushing energy through the world’s mystical framework just to see what will happen, is probably on the verge of Falling.
>Learning a given Exploit requires that the demon has the knowledge base to do so. For example, in order to learn the Hellfire Exploit, the demon needs to understand how the subroutines work with regards to firearms. This means that the demon needs to know an Embed such as Check Backdrop or Merciless Gunman. Each Exploit lists a few potential prerequisite Embeds, but the demon need not know all of them in order to learn the Exploit. Indeed, if the player can make a convincing case for a why a given Embed enables the character to learn a given Exploit, the Storyteller should allow it. Demons are masters of lateral thinking — they had to be in order to Fall.

It's one of my favorite tweaks with nWoD and reimaging demons and angels outside of the usual judeo-christian style. Angels are programmed algorithms of the God-Machine, and Demons can be thought of as rogue AI that have developed a sense of self (literally the reason why they gall from grace). Demons can experience 'glitches' too - ranging from circuit patterns appearing on their flesh like a stigmata, or randomly freezing and skipping forward in time as if they were lagging.

>> No.5970041

>>5969701
Descent Demons are rad. Another cool thing is that Embeds are split up into 4 groups. The group names pull from musica universalis, the “music of the spheres", which is a medieval philosophy all about the mathematics of planetary movement. So as the God-Machine has the very obvious tech-bent to it, the powers of demons also reflect it through this mathematical lens. Each has a literal and conceptual component that different Embeds might take advantage of. The four groups are as follows.

>• Mundane: These Embeds help a demon stay unnoticed and incognito. Conceptually, they deal with the notions of concealing, obfuscation and forgetting. Psychopomps find these powers easier to learn.
>• Instrumental: These Embeds allow the demon to affect material objects and machines. On a conceptual level, they deal with timing, precision and utility. Guardians have an affinity for them.
>• Vocal: Demons use these Embeds to exert influence over people and other thinking beings. Conceptually, they relate to communication, revelation and realization. Messengers make easiest use of Vocal Embeds.
>• Cacophony: The Embeds of chaos, violence and disharmony. Their concepts are destruction, renewal and entropy. Obviously, they are the purview of the Destroyers.

Psychopomps, Guardians, Messengers, and Destroyers are the 4 core Incarnations of demons, which represent the roles they were created to fill by the God-Machine there is also a 5th one, Analysts, in a later book that gets to pick an Embed type to favour. There is an awful lot of flavour really crammed in everywhere for demons.

The Contagion Chronicle was pre-COVID but COVID could be a solid inspiration for a Contagion. The Contagion itself isn't a set thing but a narrative device used as a means to effect the whole World of Darkness as a hook to justify why supernaturals would team up for crossover games. The general idea is that the God-Machine is/was/will-be sick and it's fucking things up right now. There are 12 example Contagions. The Pure Contagion, and then the Contagions of Blood, Emotion, Soul, Persona, Stability, Sustenance, Flux, Death, Morality, Urges, Reality. Each of these comes with a separate location as a setting, and has unique symptoms/causes/cures, and plays to different themes and moods. Also has some new factions and power sets open to all supernaturals

Keep in mind that, typically, TTRPG sessions last for about three hours. At least in streams. IRL ones often go for 4 to 6 hours. The tutorials have all been about three and a half hours long, give or take. With four people rather than just one, they might be on the longer side depending on how much Calli plans or over plans.

So saying midnight or even a few hours before might sound nice, but when they aren't ending until 2, 3, or even 4 am... it's a bit much.

Holo ID in general are great options and are easier to schedule since Indonesia is a closer timezone to Japan. Some of you guys are looking at the scheduling issue around the Trinity, when Mori is the GM aka the game can't continue without her. Reine was actually embolden to look up TTRPGs because Anya was interested first. And Risu does know a little bit about TTRPGs, even before EN was a thing.

So here's my impression on the ID as a player pool.
Ollie - proactive and willing to try out anything. Will be undoubtedly be a crazy but non-murderhobo.
Reine - Enjoys a good story and has a background in reading (and /u/schizowriting) them
Anya - Perfect new player Tabula Rasa. Both eager to learn and uncorrupted by videogame expectations on what an rpg looks like.
Risu - can get deeply immersed in storytelling and has voice acting skills. Although it takes a while for her to warm up.
Lofi - she WILL innitiate ERP or other interpersonal relationships with the characters
Moona - i dunno man she sing good. Risu can you vouch Moona for me here?

No. They also have no real reason to exist. There is no Caine (at least not in a way that matters), there are no Antediluvians, and there is no Gehenna. So the Sabbat just kinda don't have a place in that setting. But there are VII and Belial's Brood as Covenants that fulfill similar purposes.

I haven't seen it yet but that wouldn't gel with Sabbat anyway. Sounds like the Circle of the Crone to me, like that's there thing. This is how their supplement starts. Does this sound about right?

>The old gods are not dead. They sleep in the earth like ancient vampires. To wake them, members of the Circle of the Crone dance on the graves of the gods and sing their names into the night.
>While the rest of vampire society faces inward, the Circle walks the perimeter. Acolytes in every city are praying, bleeding, feeding and screwing where the lights of vampire society give way to the woods and the mountains and the ruins of the societies that came before. Acolytes dig up the shards of the old ways and the bones of dead gods and bring them back to life as the Acolytes themselves have been brought back from death. Similar but there are some key differences. Dr. Nice was a regular competent guy overwhelmed by a paranoid rural tomboy who decided to play bad cop without a good cop around. He seems like someone who could interact with women normally when they aren't offering him eggs, showing them their rad knife, and then trying to choke him in the space of 5 minutes. Also if he's an actual MD or MDPhd he's probably at least 28-30 years old and Scout is 18 which probably messed with his head in multiple ways.

Vic's issues with women seem to run much deeper. He strikes me as the type who though becoming a vampire would help him pick up chicks and yet somehow strikes out continuously. They are both great characters that give Mori a lot of tools to work with.

My favorite bits: Watoto enjoying family life with his bizarre cultish backwoods family, his response to a servant of Mega Satan offering him a deal, trying to trade an "invisibility" mushroom that will protect you from the government for a gun, the gun dealer basically saying this is bullshit but your dad is a good customer so whatever, then actually using a mushroom to turn invisible when government goons show up through pure luckshittery. I think it was the weakest by a good margin for a number of reasons but it was pretty amusing and I think once his design is finalized and in a group and some experience it will work much better. It really suffers in comparison to Tiara, Yuul, and Scout though they were top tier. I'd say watch them in order since Mori improves as a GM from an already great baseline as time goes on.

I also suggest watching it with the archives on another monitor. Half the fun is the responses from the board in general and specifically WoD nerds marking out over obscure shit, if you don't mind some spoilers. To be fair they are wrong half the time so it doesn't matter all that much.

eh underage smuhderage, in south everyone gets married under 18.
what would be kinda realistic, is that savvy city slick Chad seduces her first time for a one night bang, then she gets real mad, when she realizes it was just a one-time, when in south it would mean going steady.

I think there has to be a balance of fit but lean, like Gura may have picked that fan art on her into as it's closet to the idea she had of Scout. Like I don't expect Scout to be She-Hulk buff but is a tough scraper.

Also it's funny how she found a way to play as a DMC character without being part demon.

you know more that i think about it more i like the idea of the ascending ones being involve in the town, the connection to the potion of watoto, the nice link to the tiara backstory and the reference to the actual kiara, the group being all crafter, even yuul being a phd student in biology could find the potions as something that could keep her invested in the group, only scout is kinda left out but after the session i trust gura and mori to create a fast connection with the other players or a common mentor.

The self inserting wasn't bad, but the fact that she just completely refused to engage with the plot hooks made for a really boring game. You could really place blame on Ina or Mori for that, but the end result was a really mediocre intro. Also >>5970751 is pretty on point.

I dunno, sure her lack of interacting with others may have been a bit boring but realistic, I think making Yuul as the straight man with a permanent "too tired for this shit face" like pic related. I liked the way she said how excited she was in the most monotone voice which implies she rarely smiles and would likely have the same face even when smiling.

>create life with unholy experiments? I'm down.
>Murder an innocent bystander with no justification or explanation? Say no more!
She's absolutely INCAPABLE of refusing anything. The only reason she's not part of the fraternity and Chad's girlfriend is that he's such an unbelievably laid back non-pushy guy that will literally bend over backwards to accommodate even the slightest discomfort.
Watoto's soul has been hijacked by the physical incarnation of evil, but I honestly think Yuul is the most likely to betray and kill everyone else, while apologizing the entire time.

I think it's more on Mori not really having a good idea of what's it like being in grad school in the sciences. When Oopsie asked Yuul to do something related to lab work, all the other hooks will seem like distractions. Yuul trying to say no everyone else other than Oopsie, who she barely questioned, is pretty realistic. If anything, Ina needed to be like Gura and help Calli flesh out the scene.

Doesn't change the fact that grad students don't really go to frat parties. Even the ones that are greek usually don't, it's usually undergrads and pledges who go. Grad students go to downtown or whatever the local bar scene is if they wanna get drinks or party.

>> No.5986548

>> No.5986626

>>5986548
Sure there are, but then we return to the initial proposition - Mori probably shouldn't have used a frat party as the main stage for her plot hooks if she wanted Ina to bite (as amusing as it was to see her bumble through it).

>> No.5986707

>>5986626
I don't think Yuul tagging along with the Brohood would've been too out of character but I think she actually expected Yuul to have her main scenario with Dr. Oopsie at the lab. The party was the equivalent of Scout doing donuts and buying eggs: let's her inhabit a character and also set up a ton of useful plot hooks and npcs for the future. Neeta, Imma and the witches, Chad (whose number Yuul has now), his bros, and the Brohood are all now available for the GM and players to use and reference.

>> No.5986907

>>5986707
I agree that from a world building point of view Mori was able to lay a lot out there, although I disagree that Yuul ever had a chance of tagging along with either the brohood or the witches in this first session (at least, not without having directly experienced the paranormal first for herself). Lacking any other context, they just come off as pushy and bizarre, which to be frank isn't that unusual for greek life in reality.
