Due to the reduced distance between viewer and audience, they'll suffer worse wear-and-tear than a regular steamer does from dealing with hundreds/thousands of internet people. While I don't disagree that vtuber GFE is far more "artificial", I'm not sure that the "physical contact" is the primary selling point. For instance, in most hostess bar or rental GF situations, you also don't get to touch, but it still sells a similar emotional "romance" experience to what a GFE streamer does. The main difference lies in the fact that you are watching a recording of that date in POV, versus actually being there in person. Sure, there's definitely a difference, but when the in-person option charges by the hour and will generally be lower quality, sometimes watching the recording can be a good enough (free) substitute. Loneliness is definitely a major issue among young men especially, and GFE certainly isn't an optimal cure since it has far too many negative side effects for particularly emotionally vulnerable guys. GFE chuubas tend to run the risk of large amounts of anti's if the mask slips, either they get revealed to have a boyfriend, they graduate, or they drastically change their content. To answer the question, I don't think streaming is a good deal for viewers to the extent that that streamer is trying to do it professionally. Socialization is a fundamental need and it's like selling water to people stuck in the Sahara. Girls that embrace being "GFE" tend to have a harder time because people on both sides start being more honest about how they feel, and all the bad stuff comes to the surface.
