It can also be impactful when a villain or anti-hero character fails to convince their opposites to conform their ways, but they go along with it begrudgingly anyway. A method that worked for when I'm writing things for a character in a certain location they won't be back to for a while is to try writing all that I might want to happen there. Then I take a look at it when the scene is due to transition and think about what might be coming next, and how much in the current scene might either be too much fat, or an event or action that could be placed in another location or setting.
A way to potentially solve wanting to write X in place A after the fact, you can always do a change in perspective within the narrative and possibly write a scene in place A that doesn't have X in it since they can't be right now, and still elude to whatever you wanted to portray with different actors. If that is applicable of course.

Diction can be a challenging beast to wrestle. I've been battling it myself recently and I keep finding for every line I write in the proper diction, I default to more normal inflections the one after. It's hard to really make it the default even if it fits the character at first. As far as readability goes you might want to keep 1-2 parts of a sentence in the clear manner of speaking the character has that sets them apart or fits the setting. If there entire paragraphs in ol timey speak, it can be a little rough to look at for some people.
