My personal story idea for a game like this which I think would be pretty cool would be some SCP style breach of sorts where a bunch of archived stories manifested into reality, perhaps the player being from a story themself, trying to escape and survive the archive disaster in some way

Whatever game it is is, getting an actual good story is hard if you try and have too much story but not enough skill so a fan game should be kept simple
There can be some type of story to get players invested in progress or as a framework to imagine their own scenarios, but it can be very simple and vague
