Youtube. Twitch culture is for fucking losers, man children and actual children. Yes, moreso than YouTube's. If a vtuber likes twitch culture a lot that won't save it in my eyes, the girl just gets demoted down as lowlife trash like the rest of them instead.

Youtube also keeps VODs, and twitch streamers literally use it as a backup repository. If you are gonna compare site to site directly then no you can't go "but you can store vods on YouTube" - that's admitting defeat basically because twitch by itself fails at this fundamental attribute.

I've discovered the majority of vtubers I watch on twitch through the site itself, because of recommendations, raids or gift subs, sometimes even through emotes.
The same is unthinkable on youtube. Recommendations are dogshit. The site would rather shadowban chuubas I already watch than show me new ones. Emotes can't be used on other channels. Raids and gifts are features they copied from twitch recently, but raid culture isn't really the same and gifts are worthless for discovery because they are opt-in and mostly just go to people who are already dedicated viewers and currently in the chat.

I've had an entirely different experience as far as youtube/twitch chatters go. Maybe it's different because youtube vtuber watchers primarily watch corpos, who are mostly spared the absolute worst of what youtube has to offer. Indies enjoy no such protection. The shitters that regularly plagued my favorite indies' chats while they streamed on youtube was some absolute rancid shit and they've occasionally expressed how glad they are not to have to endure it anymore. Twitch has weirdos too, obviously, but they are so much rarer in comparison.

Maybe these comparisons come from looking at youtube corpos vs twitch large indies or vshojos, not youtube indies vs twitch indies. The difference is massive.

>> No.59001209

I only watch vtuber streams and no other kinds of streamers, so I never really got into twitch, and now I find the site design and culture bewildering and exhausting, and the site aggressively tries to autoplay me into some horrible 3DPD streamer content. Plus, the ads are terrible and keep evading adblockers and the site won't let me log in on my tablet (primary platform I watch on) even if I request the desktop site—they want me to use their app, and I don't want to. By contrast, youtube's mobile site works fine and for some reason doesn't even load any ads for me, and I can switch to my other preferred content of nature documentaries, structural disaster analysis, and music the moment I'm done watching a stream without even having to go to another website. So, I'd rather watch virtual youtubers on youtube.

Good news. Youtube recently tried fucking around with antiadblock, thankfully my Ublock is still going strong. Fuck ads, never again. I don't think companies realize how much I hate them from how things were, I would unironically stop using the site.

Follow-up for something specific I forgot to mention: twitch emotes. I can't stand them. There's this whole universe of esoteric memetic emotes
on twitch I have no idea the lore behind, but most of them are really ugly and feel "loud" visually. Youtube only lets you use stock emotes and ones from the channel you're currently watching, so I'll never have to see someone come into chat for something I'm watching and see them start spamming some emote of a guy making an exaggerated ``funny'' face. I also don't like the thing I see on youtube sometimes now where chats embedded into the stream will have a bunch of hearts floating up (annoying/distracting), but I don't know if that's a youtube thing or part of whatever system is used to embed chat into the stream.

I prefer Twitch. I've been using it since JustinTV, years before YouTube even toyed with the idea of hosting livestreams.
And it's just no contest.

Twitch is built for livestreaming. Its interface is superior for finding and watching livestreams.
The chat is significantly, significantly better. I've heard it plenty of times from streamers and chatters that the chat experience of YouTube alone is enough to keep them away.
The fact that I need a third-party extension to make YouTube streams look like this is fucking pathetic.
Twitch's community... exists at all, unlike YouTube.

There's a reason why almost all streamers are on Twitch, and why YouTube can only get big players by buying them out.

Recommendations are better on Youtube for the user, although discovery is far worse if you're a toiling 2view.
Twitch chat is especially retarded and zoomie. This isn't a big thing because they really aren't far off from each other, but pretty much everyone is an ironic weeb on Twitch.

The Stream Cleaner extension works, I do not see ads. Yeah sometimes they find a way to break it but after a couple days the extensions get patched or you can find a new one that works. Big deal.

Emotes are fun and the third-party extensions open up not just a huge amount of emotes, but also lots of QoL site features (for example, I have a bunch of the chat clutter removed like hype trains, gift leaderboards, etc.).

I don't know why emotes make YouTube kids so upset anyway, it's not like you faggots even care about chat experience. Chat may as well not exist at all on YouTube. YouTube vtubers barely acknowledge it, most of them don't even put your usernames in their on-stream chat widget, there's significant delay, and it defaults to a weird "top chat" function that prunes some comments for some reason.

You know what you can do in Twitch chat?
>directly reply to other chatters, including a thread function
>viewer-side filter system if you're autistic enough to need one
>use one channel's sub emotes across the entire site
>collect channel points for redeems which streamers can set up to interact with their stream layout, model, the lights in their room, etc (e.g. direct viewer interaction with the stream)
>if you are a streamer or mod, you actually have effective mod tools (critically important and it baffles me that YouTube still hasn't improved this at all)

Anyway, end of the day the chat reflects the streamer.
A lot of you have this single idea of what "Twitch chat" is, but it's different in every channel. I mean yeah there's a generalized culture around emotes and the third-party extensions, but everyone's chat is different.

The entire point of a livestream is that it's LIVE. If you aren't engaging with it LIVE, then you might as well just watch the VOD instead.

Twitch does have better discoverability, simply because you can search the vtuber tag and find a plethora of chuubas live (most are trash).
Vtuber tag on youtube is mostly old shorts content that have big views.
Twitch also has affiliate program, and better emotes. Gifts a bits are also better than YT, as well as mobile support. Mod features are also far, far superior on Twitch, as well as bot integration.
Twitch streamlines a lot of things, and makes it easier for indies to get recognized and receive support from their audience.
YT has some benefits, like automatic encoding and VOD support, plus shorts, but that is about it as far as I am aware.
At the end of the day, smart indies use both, and corpos use YT because they don't really need what Twitch has. YT also has account controls, which may be why it's so popular with corporate chuubas.
It's all about what you need from the platform. Neither is entirely superior to the other.

It has vast majority of vtubers I watch. The only one I like on Twitch is FallenShadow, and I'm fine watching the vods she posts on Youtube.
I don't like interacting with vtubers with low viewers. It gets my social anxiety going too much. So any benefits twitch has for streamer interaction is lost on me.
I don't need discoverability, because I don't do a lot of stream hopping or trying to discover new vtubers. I see vtubers more of a long term relationship where I try to watch every stream that I can from my favored vtubers until they stop streaming. I only watch like 4 vtubers, and that's more than enough streams to fit in my busy schedule.
YouTube keeps the VODs archived.

Youtube has a bottomless amount of entertainment I already know I enjoy, perfectly curated specifically for me. Why would I go somewhere else for streamers of dubious quality that I don't care about, with a worse interface, and a worse fanbase?

On youtube you can set up a frame in advance. And I just can open that "upcoming" in a new tab. And forget about it until it starts or I randomly click on that tab again. It's much, MUCH more easy to track upcoming streams. From what I've seen, on twitch it just happens, no warning. To know stream is happening you just have to... know it's happening. 1. Watch ads. I hate ads, so this is not an option.
2. Use uBlock on PC and either ad-blocking browsers or cracked apps on mobile, until Google breaks them, and then it's the usual rat race. All so that I can steal the bandwidth from YT and the content from creators (because they wouldn't see a cent from me)
3. Pay Premium, get zero ads on all platforms, and the creators I watch allegedly get more money from me than if I watched ads.

>what's a vtuber?
For starters the very notion of indie vtuber is completely insane.
Vtubing exists because corporations decided to pour money into character rigging which led to vtubers like Kizuna Ai.
The technology just so happened to become cheap enough that any whore can put on an avatar and claim to be a vtuber.
It's pathetic, they changed their appearance but their content is exactly the same. There's a reason I stayed away from twitch streamers before and it's the same reason I stay away from twitch "vtubers" now.
Vtubers, by their very nature, requires very deliberate content and behavior to appeal to a specific audience. The fact that live 2d rigs required effort implied that it had to be a deliberate decision with a specific purpose. It requires an understanding of the community you're appealing to.
Twitch cam whores, on the other hand, adopted vtubing because it's the new cool thing that is successful. They're just chasing for clout like they always do.
