Why do vtubers use the word "graduate" its not a fucking highschool or college, its stupid just say you are done with vtubing or whatever

>or whatever
alright I'll use graduation

>> No.5874953

It's an idol thing, not a vtuber thing. If a girl leaves an idol group then she has a "graduation" unless there's a scandal in which case she just disappears.

Because real life truths such as "dying" or "getting fired" will destroy the escapism.

卒業 doesn't only mean graduation, it can also be used to describe closing a chapter of one's life, or even quitting a job. EN translators didn't have to translate it as that specifically, but they did and now the word stuck. What can ya do right?

Being an idol in Japan is sometimes seen as a stage in ones life to learn to cherish memories and grow into someone and one day "graduate" and move on with your life this is more the 3d life version but early vtubers were seen as idol cause they were like the anime idols who sang and performed and some held this sentiment. Graduation from all vtubers always feels like this they say to enjoy the moments that happened and smile and wish happiness as they move on with their lives.

Also If you watched Japanese media they have an obsession with creating things around transience. Huge events like graduating highschool, getting a new job, someone dying, bf/gf getting or breaking up change and drastically shape the person this feeling of accepting and moving on from the fleeting of time they love.

This could possibly not be true but this is just my thoughts on why Japan likes to use the word graduate from someone who watches girl idols and Japanese media

It definitely works well as no one really sees graduation as a bad thing. Well, in coco's case it's obvious that her getting fired it the best thing that could happen so she's not a good example.

meanwhile americans come up with new words to self censor every 5 years because the old one is already considered a slur, censor words on TV to the point they couldn't even say "toilet" and screech about fat/gay/trans/retard/X acceptance all day everyday, but yeah, asians are the ones who lack mental fortitude

>> No.5885999

It goes all the way back to a super popular idol group in the 80s called Onyanko Club, which had a school club type of image. When two of their members decided to retire, the producer created a song around the the concept of school graduation for the occasion. The song was released in March of that year and played all across Japan at school graduation ceremonies. The group's nationwide tour ended with a ceremony commemorating the two members graduating. So the whole emotional appeal and graduation concept got stuck in the mind of Japanese society and became tradition. Japan has a huge nostalgia hard-on for school life.
