And while looking in on hundreds of people fawning over a random girl's cute noises makes you feel like it's legitimized, looking in on a dozen people doing the same makes you feel like you walked in on someone's sweaty cult in a basement.

And there's little the 2view can do to change that sort of perception, even if they fully intend to be around for years, even if they truly want to sacrifice everything for their viewers and their stream. Because everyone can say the same thing, especially behind the mask of anonymity. It's all a branding issue wrapped up by the chicken-and-egg problem of having to be popular to become popular.

Most 1views and low 2views more or less know they are ngmi amateurs and treat vtubing just as a hobby for fun (or at least they should, because if you have delusions of grandeur at this level, you're predestined for misery) and not a serious main career.

And on the other end of the scale, if you already are in mid/high 3view category, you are probably self-sufficient with streaming. Not mega-rich, certainly, but depending on how many paypigs you gathered and maybe a few oil barons among them, you can afford to focus on streaming full-time. Plus by that point you've probably already grinded your ass off for a while and know a bit about the realities of the business so you're less prone to superficial jealously like someone who has no idea what it takes to "make it", since you're actually working and achieving stuff.

It's usually those that grew up and as kids they or their friends wanted to be content creators or streamers. They have nothing they want to create but just want the recognition all the same. Yeah, I'd say that's overall with vtubers is that to be someone for them or to keep them going you have to paypig.
I have fleshtuber male that I've been following for 8 years before I even understood proper English, anyway he is high 4view and I visit his stream sometimes once a month, sometimes few times a week when I'm interested in what he is playing and I get recognized there even though I've never paid for sub or donated to him. While with girls i feel fucking guilty for being grey, so I don't stick around and that there are perks about being memba/sub which makes me FOMO so I can't commit to someone I need to pay money to fully enjoy them if it makes sense.
Guys are there for fun while with girls it feels different. But I understand that for girls there are harsher standards in some situations, like not having bf/husband, but most male fleshtubers I watched I haven't even heard an offhand comment about them living with someone or having a girlfriend, or I heard it in a subtle way once in few years of watching.

tldr(not); it feels to me that everything about vtubing is tied to money, while most fleshtuber males I watched are doing it or started for fun, without any shit like memba streams and posts, which pushes me away kinda, even if I'm willing to pay, the only time I paid for memba is to watch Shondos watchalong and I left after first movie it was boring, but I haven't felt guilt for subbing because I didn't mind her content otherwise and I liked that she doesn't gatekeep greys in her chat and some other chuubas just because I felt like it and I wasn't pushed by FOMO memba/sub benefits.
