Couple of questions about lora training. Should I do similar tagging with styles as with character loras? And which base model is good with style training as some comments suggested that basic nai is bad for it.
Other question about character lora: should I bake vae into the lora? Whenever I try to use Animefull final pruned as my base model, the lora tends to output very flat and desaturated colors. Checking metadata, most people seem to use this model as their base but their output won't get fucked up the same way.

I almost always upscale with one of the latent options, they're faster + use less VRAM + most importantly I just prefer how they look. 0.6 is a bit high, I'm almost always somewhere between 0.53 - 0.57.
By far the most common thing for latent to totally mangle is hands. Sometimes if I get a really good gen with a hopeless hand I will gen the same prompt + seed but with a non-latent upscaler and paste over the hand from that, since it is already in the right place and pose. But it is possible to get passable hands with latent too just way less likely. And I find it gives a lot more detail and texture to other parts of the image like skin, hair, eyes, so worth the tradeoff for me at least.
Picrel is latent at 0.55. Can't gen a new example right now but it's an old one back from the start of the pom pom era. When you're keeping hands out of the image or are willing to fix them in inpaint it's a great option imo

For style lora just run it through a tagger don't need to prune, for character lora prune color tags. Always train on regular nai, unless I missed something in recent times I can't see why would you want to do it on anything else since it's the base for all anime models.
If I understand how lora works. I can't see baking the VAE helping with that. Worth testing though.

Oh yeah it definitely has a bit of a muddying effect (if you want to call it that) a lot of the time so it doesn't play nice with some more stylized art styles. But at least personally I don't gen that very often so it works for me. And the VRAM thing is actually important since if I use loras I often can't upscale the full x2 with non-latent upscalers

Well, in a way, yes. --med-vram and --low-vram options will trade off less VRAM usage for more CPU and RAM usage, but it's not what you want if you can avoid it. It makes things way slower. Yeah pretty much. I enjoy the surreal simultaneous sense of interest and horror that these give off, so maybe that's why I do it.
The jank is more or less directly related to the amount of hours put into it. Theoretically I could tweak every single keyframe with inpainting and insert more keyframes, but the work to do that would go from like 1 week to 1 month or more. Plus I'm also learning about other new techniques like CoDeF. This stuff is developing at such a rapid pace that things I tried like a month ago are outdated.

You can search for models and Loras And it comes built-in with controlnet and you also can Inpaint
The main disadvantages of it are that because it is free you cannot use it frequently as generate or inpaint costs points and these points are only given daily or if you upload/make a Lora or model and people use it or post an image there and receive a lot of likes.
Also you can't mix models
So basically if you're a perfectionist or like to mix models I wouldn't recommend it

yeah I've tried alot of different things, and a couple thoughts

openpose is deceptively good, the issue is that it also brings all its useless space with it, so alone, you get strange happenings where the character isn't. and since most of the other controlnets are gonna lock the character in a position anyway, it doesn't really do anything (but maybe could be worth if you preprocess and get good hand/face frames, but the preprocessor sucks and won't do that for you, thats a DIY thing)

depth isn't bad per say, but when dealing with animation, too much will get lost in the vagueness of depth, we need the lines of the character more than anything since those dictate motion. lineart_anime is my preferred choice so far, normal and depth just don't get these results.

I've found that the "sparkles" tag does a lot of cool stuff when you add it to water based settings like beaches and pools.

Depends on the model. If it leans heavily 2D, you can get away with pushing it harder. Way way harder, like up to actual CFG 40 lol.

cont. if you go with a higher actual CFG (anything approaching 30), you need to turn the threshold percentile up. I only use 17 cfg and 90-95 threshold most of the time. by the time you're at 30 you want at least 95%. anything above 30 you're going to get closer and closer to 99% or the image will fall apart.

if you're just looking for the benefits people expect out of it (fingers, definition, etc), you use cfg 8 most of the time? set cfg to 16, tell it to mimic 8. and then stick with:

the different schedulers change the rate at which cfg gets changed per step. half cosine up = follows a cosine curve up to HALF the set value. power up = follows a power curve up, etc.
I think half cosine up on CFG was the important adjustment to get it playing nice with DPM++ Karras samplers. if you use e.g. regular cosine up, it will fry. I must've messed with different combos for hours when it first came out, brain rusty tho. especially since Restart + Rescale work a bit differently...

if you want it like that Maririn, turn the clamp up closer to 100. play with it, the further up you get past 95, the more it starts to change with very minor adjustments. like the diff between 93 and 95 is smaller than 99 and 99.5.

yeah CFG scheduler "Power Up" might've been the more important one for keeping it from frying then. he's pushing it harder here too, not just because the actual cfg is set to 30, but the starting cfg (4) is lower too.
so the image it mimics starts out at cfg 2 and follows a cosine curve up to 7. the actual cfg setting starts at 4 and follows a power (of 4) curve all the way up to 30.
he's getting a bit of that pastel-y look too and I think it comes with the comparatively high clamp %
